I can only hope this is the final blow in a long string of unfortunate occurances. One more and I'm done for.

Fuck Fuck Fuck. Anybody need a hardworking smartass with computer skills? I'm a team player. heh.

Holy shit. I'm sorry, Rose... that's terrible. *Flips off former employer.*

I am so sorry to hear that.

Some employers have no sense of humour (some of them just have no sense).

Hope you find something very quickly.:rose:

Oh Noooo!

I can't help ya, Rosie girl... if I knew anyone looking to hire a cmartass with computer skills, I wouldn't be unemployed.

They fired you for accessing Lit at work?

Time to get a -work from home- job..

You can sit there in your underwear, guzzling coffee and reading porn while you are working.

Good luck finding another job really soon..
~smiles~

Oh no! Rose, I'm so sorry, that really sucks.
I'd offer you a job but all I need right now is someone to scrub pots and pans and somehow I don't think thats for you.

OMG - no! I'm so sorry. Do you have any recourse? Did they give you a warning first? You might have some basis to appeal that decision... maybe one of the lawyers here would know? (Did you sign a "usage agreement" or something of that sort regarding company policy and use of their systems? Did you only access at lunch, during your free time?)

Damn. I am so sorry for all you've had to deal with.
Well, Gypsy Rose, I believe this is for the best. You were not happy. Now, you have an opportunity to find a new path to follow. And, preferably one that allows visits to Lit. and masturbatory stimuli. :D

Seriously though, if there's anything I can do, please let me know.

What is the exact policy? Was this the first time you were caught?

I agree with Dahlgren - I've worked freelance for almost 2 years (after a lifetime of F/T jobs) and the freedom is incredible. None of that political BS, no stupid rules - basically, it ended all the crap that had nothing to do with my actual job. If you are a computer person, find a niche that you can do from home (mine is technical writing).

And get thee to the unemp office straight away - they are doing great things with extensions, etc. I'm sorry you were fired - that's the second one I've heard today.:(

Damned double reverse double post!

Damn, Rose! I'm so sorry! Had you been there a long time? How'd they find out? Sounds awfully heavy-handed to me. Is there anyone elso there who would be more understanding who you could talk to and apologize? I wish I could help.

Extending my sympathies, Rose:rose: I've been unemployed almost about two years now; it's not been easy, and I know so many others who are still in their searches! I hope this turns out to be a good thing for you, and that something much better will soon come along.

Wish I knew a way to work from home? Any ideas how to get started?

Best wishes, Rose:rose:

Well, it sucks. But if you were breaking the rules of acceptable use that you may have signed then there isn't much you can do- unless they are paying you to do something that involves accessing this site.

It's been a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day

This is the thing:

I had my head in the sand. The university that I work for is the largest employee in the state. My department is a small but unique cog within the big wheel. We have been in proration for over a year now. Our department has undergone serious cutbacks (ex: our entire marketing team was let go one by one) and there is a possibility that the entire department will be completely disbanded within the next year. The necessary goal was to be self sufficient financially from the state funding or we would be shut down. This is not happening under our current director. She was the wrong person for the job.

At this time I, along with everyone else there, was doing the job of multiple employees because of the cutbacks. None of us has had a pay increase on an already nominal salary. Moral was low, and my job had become a dead end.

I accessed this site in my free time, keeping the screen reduced for quick in and out visits at the click of a mouse. I did not open graphic images from this site during working hours; I rarely explored it beyond the BB, still I was logged on for the majority of my day. I had a file of artwork that I used for avatars saved to my personal documents, some erotic and several that were simply artistic.

I got caught. They monitered my computer and they seized it. I had been on vacation leave since Friday, and today I was to return to work. I called my boss this morning to caution her that I had contracted pink eye and should probably be isolated. She told me to hurry in. When I arrived I was called immediately into my directors office, where a pinched face woman for Human Resources introduced herself and I sat down at a conference table with my director, my immediate supervisor and our financial director. I was informed of their findings and asked to account for it. I was then asked to relinquish my keys and badges, and remove any personal belongings from my desk.

Standard operating procedure but a first for me. This has been one hell of a year for upheaval and chaos so far. Since January, I have been hospitalized and recovering from illness, I ended a relationship and began another that has been strained and heartbreaking as of late, I have had my car broken into, my tires slashed, my renter moved out without giving me notice and left me in debt, my driver's license was suspended due to a bounced check for a ticket payment (the check bounced because a visiting houseguest ran up over $70 in rent-a-porn without asking me - the cable bill came directly out of my checking account), my oldest friend died, overnight it seems my house has become infested with fleas and I am covered in bites, I managed to get pink eye from hugging someone, and this morning I got fired.

I think I'll move to Australia.

Patient1's post said it best.

It's a fuckin' downpour for you Rose, and I'm sorry. I wish I had words that could make it all better.

Oh Rose... I am so sorry this happened to you. Hopefully this will be a warning to other people here to be cautious.

All your online activity can be monitored by your employer and accessed through their server logs. Most companies do have a policy that, if violated, can get you fired. Sometimes you might get a warning, sometimes not.

Safest thing is not to access "questionable" sites from the office or employer network. If you do, don't stay logged in longer than "necessary." You can also use various programs/web sites that can filter/hide where you're going, acting as a proxy for you (but that's not foolproof).

Rose - you know that if there is anything I can do to help, just ask... and perhaps this will all work out for the best - a better job... a chance to pursue other goals. I hope so. *HUG*

DAMN!

Hang in there, Rosie... We are all pulling for you - Last year was my "Annus Horribulus", so I can empathize with your shitty luck. :(

The good news is, that Life always seems to have an upswing when it looks as bleak as today must, to you. :)

Here's a flaower :rose:

Big HUGS, Ma'am ;)
