for jury duty:

Dear Potential Juror:

You have been selected as a member of the jury panel in the Gibson Superior Court for the 2002 Term commencing July 1, 2002 through September 30, 2002. You will find enclosed a questionnaire that you must complete and return to the court in the envelope provided within five (5) days. If you fail to return the questionnaire in a timely fashion, the Gibson County Sheriff's Department will be ordered to make appropriate arrangements to make certain the questionnaire is completed and returned. You will be subject to being called for jury duty from July 1, 2002 until September 30, 2002. If your services are needed during that time you will be contacted by the Sheriff's Office in person or by telephone. The Court will endeavor to give you at least three (3) days advance notice when possible but it cannot be guaranteed.

Please be reminded that jury duty is a serious civic obligation and every citizen is obligated to serve when called upon to do so. For that reason, please do not expect to be excused from jury duty for any reason except those listed in th Indiana law. Specifically, if you are over 65 years of age and wish to be excused for that reason, your request will be granted. Your request to be excused will also be granted if you are in active service with the armed forces or no longer reside in Gibson County. Also, if you have a vacation planned during the term which will take you out of the area, please list those dates on the top of the questionnaire before you return it.

Please understand that while the Court recognizes that the call to report for jury duty undoubtedly will seem to come at the most inopportune time regarding your employment, the Court will not excuse you fropm jury duty service for employment reasons since to do so would mean virtually everyone would be excused. Also, the Court will not excuse you from jury service for a medical reason unless your doctor provides written documentation that you are unable to serve because of a medical condition. The Court will review each medical excuse request and will make appropriate inquiries with your health care provider. And the Court will not excuse you simply because you have a conflicting medical appointment.

Show up with a "Free OJ!" t-shirt.

They'll give you the rest of the day off.

I was thinking more along the lines of just mailing a piece of paper saying "Thanks, but no" on it.

You have to at least show up, getting out of it is easy.

All you need is one of the lawyers to get concerned about your state of mind.

The psycho stare is effective.

I've got it !!!!!!!

The "radon twitch"!!!!!

No, I *twitch twitch* don't have any *twitch* mental problems *twitch*.

You may as well plan the rest of your day now.

Add a couple of jerks to your twitch and you'll be out the door immediately.

You may want to check with Siren on this......

What they said...............wear a shirt that says "OJ was innocent" or "Anarchy" and you'd be a safe bet to get out of it.

Yeah, I have to get this action down pat before July.

a whoopee cushion in your pants might help also or a "fart sound generator" in your pocket!!!

I think I would love to be on a jury if I could do it when I wasn't employed and I wasn't sequestered for 6 months. I have three times gotten jury notices. Once for Oregon a couple of years after I moved to another state (they didn't believe my parents, so when I went back for a visit I went in and showed them my driver's license), and twice here in the Seattle area (excused for work reasons).

HEY!

I do jury duty and you can too. Have you no shame? no sense of responsibility?

Come to think of it i haven't heard from them in a couple of months.

Maybe they have lost my address!

I'm kind of hoping to get on the jury. Something like $55/day, which is more than I'm making right now doing nothing.

STG, actually I was on a Federal Case and was sequestered for over a month and a half.

*not directed at anyone, just a general statement*
I do take jury duty seriously and it is not a "duty" to me rather a privledge that I can take part in our legal system and do my duty as a citizen.

Here I think it is something like $20 a day plus mileage, which is less than I make in an hour - were I employed. Unfortunately, every time I have been called up I have been in the middle of an important project and it would have cost the company mucho bucks to have the schedule slip. For me it is not the money so much as how it would affect the company to have a key person taken off a project with a tight schedule. Most companies run so lean nowadays they can barely meet their schedules with who they have - take a person away for several weeks at a critical time and you can cost the company thousands if not millions in missed deadlines.

The one and only time i was called for Jury Duty, there was a plea bargain made around 3 in the afternoon after we had sat there all day waiting. The jury pool for the jury was 13. We were going to be the jury, no getting out of it for anyone.

I just got one of those letters, too. Well, mine is for Superior Court Jury Duty in SD. I've been eligble for duty for many many years, never received a notice before. It was ironic that I was just telling my government students that I'd never served on a jury and a couple of weeks later, bam..I got the notice. I'm just hoping it won't be a long case if I get called for actual duty.

I always wanted to do this, and the one time I got called I was moving out of the state the next day. I still haven't been called. But I would like to be. Do they take volunteers?

I've never had jury duty as a civilian, but I did serve on two Court Martial boards while I was in the Army. It was fairly interesting duty, but a court room can be a very hot and oppressive place in Kentucky in July. Especialy when wearing a class "A" uniform.
