Just a castaway
An island lost at sea
Another lonely day
With no one here but me
More loneliness
Than any man could bear
Rescue me before I fall into despair

I'll send an SOS to the world
I'll send an SOS to the world
I hope that someone gets my
I hope that someone gets my
I hope that someone gets my
Message in a bottle
[Message in a bottle]

A year has passed since I wrote my note
But I should have known this right from the start
Only hope can keep me together
Love can mend your life
But love can break your heart

I'll send an SOS to the world
I'll send an SOS to the world
I hope that someone gets my
I hope that someone gets my
I hope that someone gets my
Message in a bottle
[Message in a bottle
Oh, message in a bottle
Message in a bottle]

Walked out this morning
Don't believe what I saw
A hundred billion bottles
Washed up on the shore
Seems I'm not alone at being alone
A hundred billion casatways
Looking for a home

I'll send an SOS to the world
I'll send an SOS to the world
I hope that someone gets my
I hope that someone gets my
I hope that someone gets my
Message in a bottle

Sending out an SOS...
~ Sting/The Police

Sometimes I'd like to slip my message in a bottle.
It seems less effective, without the sea to toss it into.
I suppose my sea is the internet.

Do you have a message?

I must now hear Police songs.

I remember when I fisrt heard "Roxanne"-- how spare and empty it seemed, after those years of dinosaur rock and orchestras in the backup tracks...

Walking On the Moon

Bring on The Night -- in fact, just about everything on the "Regatta De Blanc" album....

Synchronicity II

The entire Ghost In The Machine album...

I still love it.

the first album was Business As Usual, the second Cargo...

I saw them live on the Cargo tour. But although they shared some of the reggae influences, I never saw them as a Police copycat.

If I lay here, If I just lay here,
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

The weight of water, the way you taught me to look past everything I had ever learned
The final word in the final sentence you ever uttered to me was love

BTW.
Your personal message does not have to be someone else's lyric. (Though it might be).

That was just my inspiration to post this.

love that song.

Light up, light up, as if you have a choice,
Even if you cannot hear my voice,
I'll be right beside you, dear.

A silicon chip inside her head,
gets switched to overload.
And nobody's gonna go
to school today,
She gonna make them
stay at home.

Machine Head did a cover of this song. I enjoy it, but they left out the last verse, which is my favorite of the song. The one that reminds me to quit complaining because just about everyone feels the same way at some point or another.

And my message is already in the bottle. It's just lost among all those other bottles floating around out there.

all i ever wanted
all i ever needed
is here in my arms
words are very
unnecessary
they can only do harm

This one bottle has cracked.
Taken on water.

Sunk to the bottom.
The message slowly dissolves.

No, that never occured to me, either. But The Police-- and the Talking Heads-- really changed the way music got produced. The artists felt more comfortable about leaving blank spaces in. You could say they reminded everyone of the value of negative space...

I really like The Shins, they seem to be very consistent in making good, emotionally satisfying music. My hipster neighbors gave me A Look when I said that-- evidently, because they had one song in "Garden State" they got a reputation for having kiddie fans. I gave them A Look right back. The lyrics are too intertwined with the melodies to make any sense when they're quoted... gotta listen.
