This one is about my digital camera.

I've had it since about April. I just put in new batteries (sunday) but it won't work. It just goes black when I try to take a pic. We were wondering if maybe it needs a new memory card
In case anyone asks it's a Fuji Finepix A205.
I would be happy with ANY suggestions.

Your symptoms match those of a low battery problem. If you have a battery tester then use it to comfirm that the camera is not "eating" batteries. Can you put them in anouther device (flashlight)? Is there a battery meter on the camera? Can you plug in an external power supply (transformer) to power the camera?

The batteries were brand new AND worked in other things I tried them in. I don't know about a battery meter. Haven't seen one on there anywhere. I didn't get a plug in thing with the camera (of course. ) If I pop the memory card out and back in I can get it to take 1 or 2 pics. Does that help any? lol

Sounds more like a memory card problem. Maybe the connection there is slightly dirty? Try getting another card- the process of elimination. Obviously it's not the batteries.

Do the batteries still work in other things?

This sounds like a power problem; the camera is shutting down when the power goes low.

An alternative is that the software in the camera is crashing. Normally I'd expect an error message like "Error 1234" to be displayed. But you never know how software will fail.

Try reformatting the card (if you can stay up long enough). If you can put the card in your PC (i.e. a reader on a USB port) try formating it there to a simple FAT system.

The idea is that if the file system on the card is corrupt then reformatting will rebuild it, or the camera will detect "blank media" and not use the corrupted file sysstem data. It's a long shot, but it's something to try.

Ummm sure if I understood anything you just said I may be able to do it. lol Anyway, the camera decided to start working again now. Thanks.

Glad it is back working.

If it works partially when you remove and reinsert the card, if it gives you trouble again try lightly polishing the contacts with a pencil eraser.

That's weird! I wonder what it was. Glad it's working again for you.
