That he has pecked a one inch deep hole into a painted foam filled architectural column. The insane part of it is that it is likely the same bird that started the whole, last year. All the other woodpeckers are on tree limbs, while this wood "challenged" bird is lookimg for insects in foam.

As an aside, does anyone know how I can get rid of this bird short of a blast from a shotgun?

We had a woodpecker that used to sit on the telephone pole and peck on the very top of the light you could tell it was plastic from the noise. Idiot birds.

I have to cover my truck mirrors to keep a Cardinal from killing himself.

Bluejays are dumb, but must be prolific.

I have piles of blue jay feathers all over. They fly down to eat the cat food with the cats in plain sight. The cats get one and within a few short minutes, another jay will try to get some cat food.

Yep. Cats missed. You should see them in the tree trying to catch hummingbirds.

Flamingo, what you seem to have there is one of those new fangled woodpecker type birds. Been raised in the city on styrofoam cups and the like and he doesn't know any better.
Or else he is being enviormental and trying to save the trees. No, banging away at styrofoam pokes holes in the ozone layer doesn't it? Oh well.

Damn city birds.

Looking for bugs, or digging a hole for a nest? If it's the latter, then he's a lazy woodpecker. :p

Check your yellow pages for a falconer that does pest control. I don't know if it would work with woodpeckrs, but airports use falconers to keep the area free of birds.

Sometimes the

site of an owl will scare then off....get an owl decoy, he is making a home not looking for bugs.

AA, I bought an owl decoy last year....

He's the woodpecker's best friend. I think they go drinking together.

Hey, I know this one!

About 10 years ago I had a woodpecker that insisted on pecking on my cedar shake shingles (say that fast 10 times!)

The way to get rid of it is to go to your grocery store and buy a hunk of suet. Nail the suet to a tree trunk AWAY from your house. It attracts the woodpecker and keeps it from pecking at your house.

Worked like a charm. Only problem was, eventually the suet was rancid and slipped off the nail on the tree. I think a local dog got it. I never asked the owner if the dog got sick. Of course, the dog shouldn't have been in my yard unleashed in the first place. You never know when rancid suet might be on the ground.

You guys slay me.. I would say you crack me up but there are far too many perverts in Literotica and you might get the wrong idea. I live out in the country so I just whack em! hmmm sounds like a soprano episode..

Well, I bought a fake owl. Now the owl=>

is the woodpecker's best friend. I think that they're drinking buddies. The woodpecker has moved into his new home. The cable guy came today to hook up his cable. And now I have a new neighbor.

Last night while having dinner on the patio, I watched the woodpecker land on the column and shimmy down into his new home. It was really quite a sight. Today I painted the hole so it wouldn't be so conspicuous. There's gonna be a card game at his home on Wednesday. I'm bringing te pretzels.

sounds like a real dimwit woodpecker

well, enjoy ur game of cards with the moron pillar pecker and the alcoholic owl. just be careful, if a woodpecker loses a hand of cards it goes for the eyes....

We had a wonderful Carolina Locust tree in the front, and every year a woodpeccker couple would live in it and rasie a nest of babies. It was at the same hieght as our bedroom window....and I would watch them for hours.....beautiful birds. Bright red tufts, black and white wing feathers....

Then they started pecking at the side of the house....the fireplace insert (metal), and a few other things.... It seems that the tree was dying and they needed to move. Once the tree was gone, they never came back. I miss them...and the tree.
