I've let my neighbor park his semi- truck in my driveway for about 4 years now because I'm nice. I've never charged him for this. The past 2 days he has been moving out of his house, washer and dryer, furniture, etc. Being the genius I am, I'm guessing they are moving.

His truck has not, however budged.

If he moves out of that house, and thinks he can still park his truck in my driveway, he is crazy.

What would you do?

Tell him that you will miss him as a neighbor and that you really hope he has found a place to park his truck.

First, not get into those situations to start with.

Now,if I were you I bounce my ass over there and tell him that you are sure going to miss him and his truck when he is gone.

Just ask if he's moving and you'd feel much better if he took his semi-truck with him. It's your property he's parking it on and you're entitled to know.

i'd make a neighbourly call on him. wish him well, ask him where he's moving to, ask him when he'll be moving his truck.

if he says he was planning on leaving it at yours, you tell him that wouldn't be possible since you need it now for your own purposes - if you need to make something up to feel easier about telling him then do so: your daughter's bought a car, you plan on putting up a fence/making over the garden, whatever.

if he asks if he could keep it parked there for a limited time, then sort out some arrangement - like he pays for your space there or leaves his keys so you can move it onto the street should he not return by a certain date to collect it.

remember

it's YOUR space. don't allow him to make you feel guilty about asking him to move his vehicle.

I'd go over and start a friendly conversation along the lines of "It looks like you're moving. Where to? Do you have a new job?" Stuff like that. It's a reasonable enough conversation to have with a neighbor. If he doesn't bring up the truck on his own, then you might want to find a way to sneak the topic in there.

I'd assume he'd want it somewhere he could either keep an eye on it, or somewhere more secure than just a random driveway, so it's certainly possible he's already made plans and simply hasn't mentioned them yet.

Make a neighbour? If it's the kind of 'hood that has semis..... May be not. Truckers can be fuckers, careful.

It really upsets me if he thinks he can just leave it, come and go as he pleases.

That is just using me. If he needed to leave it here, he should have come to me and made arrangements, like butters said. It would just be a temporary situation, i'm tired of looking at a rig in my driveway.

One of you said I should bounce my ass over there........that made me laugh.

I would think he'd want to keep an eye on it too.

Has the semi moved from that spot in the past 4 years? Has it got current registration?

If no then you might have an issue. Either way, like others have suggested, go over and have a neighbourly chat. Mentioning it'll be nice to have more room in your driveway to let the neighbour on your other side park his 5th wheel/howitzer/swamp boat...

Oh yes, he's gone during the week. It's here on the weekends.

pink, no need to go jumping to conclusions or getting in a stew over anything before you speak with him - and even then there's no need. you just tell him. you don't have to get angry or upset. :rose:

could well be he's simply too busy getting his shit together that he's not got around to speaking with you yet but it's something he meant to do and time's getting away from him.

He seems nice enough but he's using me.

They can smell doormats (no offense) - we're in a similar situation having agreed to a huge 5th wheel being parked on our property a year ago to prevent damage from builders nextdoor to 5th wheel owner. The builders left two yeaers ago...... :)

I agree with everybody....if he's moving, so should his truck. You have been too nice.....give an inch, and they will take a mile!

pink: you may take this the wrong way but, oh well...

...from everything I've ever read from you on this Board, you are emotionally, maturely, and effectively incapable of handling a situation like this yourself, so:

CALL THE POLICE FIRST...

...and inform them simply of the fact of the matter: your neighbor has abandoned his vehicle in your driveway and you want it removed.

Then...

...LET THE POLICE HANDLE IT.

This made me laugh.

And when all niceties and neighborly negotiations have failed:

I want to park my jet skis there. woooooooooooooooooo

That is just a dream, btw.

You can park them in the back of my place. I assure you they will be well protected.;)

I wouldn't want to use you. :D

No but seriously, my house sits on 2 lots. I have tons of room in what I call "my driveway." I park in my other lot. I could fit 2 jet skis and a camper in it.
