My 12 year old, who is very feminine and girly, but very athletic and strong, broke a boys finger during wrestling practice today. She says she feels bad about it, but I don't know LOL

I'm sort of scared now.

LOL, well it could be worse.. At least you know she's willing to defend herself

It could have been worse, yes.
She could have broken his finger during a date and discover she likes it.

Pro tip - dont make a grip with less than three fingers ever. They do tend to get broken

that's interesting you say that, because she showed me how his fingers were on her and he did have three! She showed me how she did the whatever type move that broke the finger...but she actually does feel bad about it. She's one of only two girls who made the team and now she feels bad that one of the boys is benched because she hurt him.

Irreverent and completely out of line response - forgive me in advance:

At least she didn't break his finger(s) by crossing her legs.

ooh, I must kill you for that!!!!

Look, we talked for TWO MONTHS about this whole wrestling thing. Her dad was in on the coversations. So when she comes home with the good news..he says "Wait, you are wrestling BOYS????"

I was ready to STRANGLE him.

Sounds like conversations my hubby and I have had. We talk about it (whatever it is), he agrees, I do it, and then he flips out because he didn't understand something to do with it or doesn't recall any of the discussions. Infuriates me.

recall discussions? That I have said "ok, listen, here are the facts, please decide the direction and I will make it happen...and please, don't forget your decision..."

and then, BAM - "what? who said that? I said that? What?"

What are we thinking? Expecting them to recall conversations? I mean, really.

No pain, no gain!

Combat sports are dangerous, even in a controlled environment, but always is better to broke a finger to a mate at gym that in a street defending her life.

OMG! That happens at our house too! Only he doesn't flip out, he just is out of it. Poor man works to hard and sleeps too little.

As far as injuries go, they do happen. Usually when your technique is off. Meaning it is usually your own damn fault. People who don't tap out for instance are just asking to go the hospital.

Teachers / Sensei's / Coaches. that encourage people to not tap out should be taken out and beaten, not in a good way either.

:rose:

I really think it was inexperience on both thier parts...first year wrestling.

I just think it's odd that my totaly gorgeous girl who happens to be a physical fitness nut is wanting to wrestle..she's my tough girl!!!

I'm sure the mat maids will enjoy having a girl to talk to on the team, for once.

I know that when I was a mat maid in high school, it would have been nice to be not-the-only-girl-on-the-bus.

Wait a minute. I knew we were supposed to remember that we HAD conversations. I did not realize we were expected to actually remember hat was said.

Are Y'all sure?
