I hate this

The suggestion to get used to them slowly is a really good one. I developed a pretty aweful fear of the things after a bad experience I will NOT recount to you. It took about 7 years of slowly getting reused to spiders. It started with getting a real good aim with a stress ball. Once you can smoosh one from about 10/15 feet away, it starts getting better.

Slowly by learning more about them and such I was able to get over it for the most part. I still will NOT go in the one area of the local zoo with loose orb weavers *shudder* But I can now kill with a paper towel.

Hypno therepy unfortuantly tends to have a half life, BUT if you use the time your defenses are boldtered by it to get used to killing the nasty bastards yourself, as the hypno wears off, you should be in considerably better shape.

But yeah its not and over night thing, and sometimes it'll go out the window. I admit, my husband was off on a trip for work and there was a particulaly nasty one on the deck right where I saw it from the kitchen window, I called the exterminator.

Also, try to think of the GOOD things spiders do. They eat all kinds of flies and mosquitos and creepy-crawly things, thereby ridding you of those pests. Spiders aren't ALL bad and they're really not out to get you. :)

I have a phobia of sharks. I don't know how or why. And granted, one doesn't seen sharks in their living quarters. However, they often come on TV unexpectedly, or their pictures are in magazines or what have you.

For many years, I would literally not be able to breathe if a shark came on TV. I had to leave the room instantly, and have someone tell me when it was safe to come back in. Even the sight of their dorsal fins above the water would bring on the panic response.

The phobia was not as debilitating as Earl's because I've only seen a shark in the wild once. Mostly it was embarrassing and the subject of a lot of teasing.

But I will tell you this, Earl. As I've gotten older, it's gotten better. I don't like watching them on TV but I can look now, at least for a full few minutes before I have to leave the room. I hope the hypnosis works, but also you can reassure yourself that it won't always be this bad, and it will get better.

I have to admit, I don't 'get' the fear of spiders unless it's a taranchula or some tropical poisonous kind.

HOwever, I have my own stupid fears so there you go.

Good luck with the hypnotist. I hope it works out well. And if not, there is desenitization therapy or something, forgot what it's called.

This might make you feel somewhat better. (or not) I've killed spiders for gals before, and guys too. Your not the only one.

It will work out all right. I promise.:)

*hug*

I still have to go get my sister, even at four am, to get the craneflies out of my room... nasty little fuckers

*more hugs*
