Shit, why not celebrate? It’ll never happen again…
Sometime yesterday, someone in Sydney or London or Bombay or Vancouver of maybe even New York, clicked a tab, and my story “Daddy, I Whispered” became the first 2006 Literotica Story (and who knows, perhaps the first all-time) to crack the 5,000 vote barrier.
It’s been weird watching the vote total climb. I was astounded when it hit 1000 votes in its first week on Literotica back in February. More votes by far than any other story I’d ever written. I looked around. There weren’t that many 1,000 vote stories anywhere. Maybe you can find one hundred of them total if you cruise the highest rated lists in all the categories.
The 2,000 mark passed in April, then 3,000 in June. It was starting to pass the all time vote gathering giants. BobbyT, Chicago Bob, youbadboy, G.H. Lawrence, masterhypnotist, snake138, ronde, TawnyT among others.
4,000th vote received in July, only the kings left above me now. One story of Wm_Sexspear’s at 4500 passed in early August.
Then it passed the big guy. In August it broke through the 4,800 vote level and passed the greatest vote collector of all time, the man with over ten 1,000+ vote stories to his credit. Went right by rgjohn’s 2002 mega hit ‘A Mother and Her Son’. In early September it broke through the 5,000 vote mark.
I didn’t celebrate or do anything special to mark the accomplishment. I simply watched contentedly as over the following weeks it continued to climb, eventually reaching the 5,500 vote level in mid October.
Then, fuck, I was massacred. In a one week period in mid-October 700+ votes were taken away and I was suddenly 200 votes short of the magic 5,000 figure. YOU BASTARDS!
I was also behind ‘A Mother and Her Son’ again. But then it started to slowly climb back up. Re-passed Literotica’s greatest author, rgjohn, again last week. As I write this his famous work now has the grand total of 4,889 votes. Hopefully it too will soon hit the magic 5,000.
Last night “Daddy, I Whispered” finally hit 5,000 again. Afraid I may wake up some morning and find another 600 or 800 votes lopped off (although hopefully the repeated ‘sweeps’ of the past few weeks has forever cleansed the 5,000 remaining votes) I thought I’d officially announce it now. Celebrate publicly. Just in case.
Since this story will never appear in any highest rated lists I wanted to let other authors know the type of vote totals that are available on the site. “Daddy, I Whispered”, for whatever reason, has generated votes in a quantity that proves that our readers will respond – both positively and negatively. Some hated it, most liked it. That’s life.
I won’t complain about the three or four hundred people (those assholes) who gave me a 1 or a 2. If they didn’t like the story (or me) so be it.
Nor chastise the more than thousand people (the pricks) who gave me a 3 or a 4.
I won’t lambaste the anonymous critics who attacked me (jerks all). In fact I welcome them. Anonymity is what allows honest feedback without the fear of cheap, retaliatory personal attacks.
I won’t e-mail the authorities demanding that the bad votes be removed (seemingly a common occurrence for some of our thin skinned brethren). Shit, I’ve never had an e-mail I sent to headquarters answered yet anyway.
“Daddy, I Whispered” is not my highest rated story, not even near it, but over thirty-five hundred people (all of them surely intelligent, kind, discerning, educated, good looking…)gave it a 5.
Is my story now the number one vote getter of all time? Maybe. But I don’t think so. There’s somebody out there, lurking hidden in the grass, with 6,200 or 7,650 or who knows how many votes. Come out, come out whoever you are.
If you haven’t read my story yet please do. Then Vote. (but please – only one vote per person, I don’t want to undergo that trauma again)
And thanks to everyone who have taken the time to send me feedback,
J.R.S.
p.s. by the way does anyone know what’s happened to rgjohn? Its been a year since he submitted a story.
