I got screwed this morning!

Don't get all excited this is my first rant thread. I checked my bank accounts online this morning as today is payday (I have auto-deposit). It's also tax return day here so I need to know just how much I can pay on what I owe (which is alot).

I have an overdraft plan: if my checking account can't cover an item the required amount is automatically transferred from my meager savings account. It's all done by computer!

I was less than $20 short yesterday so my 'plan' covered the payment. BUT, 'BofA' has charged me a $29.84 "transaction fee".
I am so upset I must wait at least a day to call and rant (with poise and really big words) so I am letting off a bucket of steam here.

anon, Perdita   :(

They get ya comin' and goin' don't they? *hugs* Good luck talking some sense into them.

¡Hola! Lime. The 1-vote made me grin. Thanks. I don't know if I will call "them" or not, it may be worth 30 bucks to not stay stressed.

Crapfuckpiss, maybe I'll buy new shoes.

A date?! I haven't been on a date in years. I prefer to just bump into men occasionally (am also on the lookout for the right gal to rub against). Done right, it's all I need. :p

Well call them or not call them. But call them names, that always cheers me up.

If I'm not mistaken, Perdita, Bank of America has been in some trouble because of those type charges. You can probably get the fee dropped if you talk to the right person.

Good luck,

We have the same, and the savings plan pays interest, so there is a deal whereby excess cash is moved from the cheque account into the savings to get the interest, with a pre-set definition of "excess".

You think you have troubles. We moved £20,000 from deposit(savings) to current(cheque) account the same day we wrote a cheque for some work we had done on the house. Before the cheque reached our bank it was the first of the month so the d***ed computer moved it all back. Then it decided that a £19,000 overdraft was too big to allow an automatic cover (a rule nobody had told us, even in the finest print) so it bounced the cheque, sent us a nasty letter and a bill for £27.00 for the heinous crime of writing a cheque for which we had insufficient funds!

We ended up with 12 bottles of good wine for that little episode, grovelling apologies to our builder from the bank, and a different bank.

Be loud yet dignified. Amazing what a little noise will get you.
Good luck Perdita! for your troubles.

Call, it will help!

Hi Perdita:

I do most of my banking online also. If you have had the same bank for a long period of time, and kept good relations with them, you should be able to ask that they waive the fee.

If it is a policy to charge the fee for any charge in the "coverage" line, get a different bank. These fees are excessive.

No loyalty to the customer with good credit? Very little use of the line of credit? They will cowtow to you Dear.

Awww, Perdyaya, I got my hopes up when reading the title!:(

I say you should take all your money out of that good-for-nothing, expensive-but-gives-nothing-back bank, and put your savings under the mattress.
That way, when you get screwed, you'll atleast have some pleasure out of it.:p

I tend to agree with Mtnman, talk them. These types of fees are extremely lucrative for the bank, but they're usually pretty easy to get waived.

I'd still ditch BFoA and go with with a smaller regional bank that's less fee-happy.

Sorry to return to this, but now, on top of the 'transaction' fee I have been charged a $14.00 'insufficient funds' fee!!! Fearing the gouging may never end I will be calling Mr. America on Monday. Hopefully I will be calmed down then.

Thank you all for your advice and condolences (via PMs too). I hope this is my last (and only) rant thread.

penalized to perdition, Perdita

(I put in the alliteration to appear somewhat authorly ;) )
