Old Arbot Street in Moscow is famous for it, too. And imitation.

I'm sure you know your amber. It's identical in color and transparency to agates found on the beach north of Kenai.

the museum has pices of fake amber on display. it's pretty convincing stuff! but a little too perfect. i like the flaws, the creases where the drier surface of the sap rolled over it'self.

That is cool! I've never found any amber, because I live in the wrong part of the world for that. However, I have found a number of fossils of crinoid stems and brachiopods. They're not sexy, but it's cool to find something that hasn't seen light since the Cambrian era.

Did you check closely for inclusions? Sometimes the insects can be very small. Even tiny gnats would increase the value.

Many years agi, I found a very large piece of green amber in Russia.
I had it cut, polished and set into a bracelet and necklace.
It has bugs and a hole from a small branch in it.
I'll dig it out of the jewellery box once I get the kidlet off to school and take a pic for you.
