I don't understand why a chapter was rejected

Hope this is in the right place, apologies if it isn't.

I just got a story sent back with this note:

While we do accept submissions with graphic violence, we don't accept "snuff" - i.e. death & extreme torture with the aim of sexual titillation. We generally do not accept submissions of nonconsensual sex in which the "victim" gets absolutely no sort of thrill or enjoyment from the acts, or is seriously and /or permanently physically harmed/abused.

There's nothing remotely like that in the story. A bit of comedic violence, but certainly not "snuff" or violence done to any of the characters. I'm confused because the first story in this series also contained some imagery of the aftermath of violence (a little more graphic actually) and that went through just fine.

Is there any way I can get clarification? Even if I wanted to change the story, I have absolutely no idea what to revise, and since it's a series I can't have a chapter missing in the middle.

Thanks!

There is only one submissions editor for this site and so much is processed through that she only has time to scan, which sometimes leads her (and whatever checking programs she uses to help her) to suppose a story includes something it may not, in fact, include. I've had a few stories initially rejected but subsequently posted as written by pointing out in the notes section of the resend that nothing of that sort is in the story and please to point it out if the editor thinks it's there.

That said, the site has a requirement that any sex initiated at less than full consent turn into consent before it ends. Be sure yours does that.

Read your "comedic violence" content (whatever that means) very closely, and make sure it can't be misconstrued as something more extreme than you intended. Pay close attention to the words as actually written, forgetting what you thought you wrote, and you might find whatever it was that bounced the text.

Oh wow, props to her, that's a demanding job for just one person! It does explain a lot though. I resubmitted the same chapters with a polite note asking to point out the problematic content if at all possible, I hope that's not out of line. Thanks for the insight!

"comedic violence" content (whatever that means)

Heh, it's a supernatural urban fantasy kind of thing and a running joke is that one of the characters keeps getting killed in exceedingly violent ways. It's funny if you think prop head explosions in 80s B movies are funny, which I grant is a very niche kind of humor.

Thanks for the advice, I'll reread and see if that gives me some insight.
