I was around during the Civil Rights Era and have no recollection of John Lewis. I recall many of the other prominent figures but Lewis isn't among them. I recall his boss, Stokely Carmichael, leader of SNCC. I recall Julian Bond. I recall Jesse Jackson. I recall MLK. Angela Davis I remember. Many others, too. But no John Lewis.
From what I see Lewis was an office gofer who organized events for others to perform. In a sense he was like George C. Marshall who organized America's World War 2 efforts but was outta harms way most of the time. I recall that SNCC was mostly a collection of loud whiners. MLK had the same reputation for appearing when the news cameras were unpacked. He saved his strength to shove widows and cripples outta the way.
I cant fathom why MSM is slobbering on Lewis' ass.
