I think I've had it with CGI. It's too weightless. I prefer the models of "A New Hope" to the ones and zeros of "Phantom Menace". And in the latest Harry Potter, which I finally saw yesterday, the camera zooms and swoops gorgeously through a castle I know only exits on screen. Great to look at, but distancing, which is how I felt about the whole movie. It was extremely well, done, and entertaining, but I felt more distracted by the CGI than involved. Of course, it could also have been my kids running in and out of the bedroom and stepping on my stomach and knocking over my milk every time a part got too scary. But, I think, overall, I've had it with CGI.
Can the next "Spider-man" use Romanian gymnasts, or something?
