I didn't leave the Democrat Party, it left me!

These are words this ex-hippie, half-breed war protestor can relate to.

My transformation has occurred. It began with 9/11 and progressed along bumpily until the Obama, Pelosi, Reid express train came roaring down the track. Putting the final nail in the coffin, so to speak, is our current foreign policy that abandons Israel, leaving it alone amidst a sea of savages and enablers that daily howl for its very destruction. That was it. It was time to jump on to the conservative bandwagon full speed ahead.

For years I had been looking around and asking, "What the heck has happened to the Democratic Party that I grew up in?" My Democratic Party loved America, believed in the Constitution, free market values, and independent thought and actions. When did it turn into the Party of "group think" and intolerance, of programmed talking points and mean spirited, vitriolic spokespersons such as Wanda Sykes and Janeane Garofalo? These aren't the Democrats that I went to D.C. with to protest the Vietnam War. These aren't the Democrats that were more concerned with the content of your character than with the color of your skin. With my attendance at CPAC this last weekend I must contend that my transformation has fully crystallized.

Now, all of this transformation has not followed a smooth and flowing path. I must admit that I have had quite of bit of reflection and doubt along the way. How could I, a child of the sixties, a lifelong Democrat and a Jew be listening to Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck?! I guess that part of the answer to that question could come from the fact that the current Democratic President of the United States came to his epiphany listening to Reverend Wright proclaiming not "God Bless America" but "Goddamn America", hanging out with unrepentant terrorists such as William Ayers and asserting that the Constitution was a "mistake."

It seems to me that if you do not believe in the Constitution you would be hard pressed to represent America as its Commander in Chief. Yes, I am not going to quibble and pick apart his comments regarding the Constitution and say that perhaps he believes in some parts of it and not in others. I don't believe that you get to choose which parts of the Constitution you support and which parts you do not. It is not a menu from a Chinese restaurant where you choose one from column A and one from column B.

Thus, I continue to read, explore and question. David Horowitz, Mark Levine, Jonah Goldberg Norman Podhoretz and Mark Steyn have become my new mentors and teachers. As I grasp to understand where I have come from and where I am going as well as where my country has come from and where it is going, I find myself a bit adrift reaching out to people and groups that once would have caused me to inwardly shiver. "Hmmm, maybe they are not really bigots, racists, selfish and self-serving"? All of the things that I heard spouted from "my side" about the evil Conservatives; the "other" does not hold water.

Thus, it felt good to be surrounded by thousands of people at CPAC that love this country, that believe that it and those that make up this country are exceptional. It felt good to be amongst those that believe that we, as a people and a country have done wonderful things for people that have been able to escape tyranny and control in countries ruled by truly self-serving tyrants.

We have and continue to provide a place for liberty seeking individuals who want nothing more than to give themselves and their families a chance to succeed by merely being "left alone," by being given the opportunity to be self-reliant. It felt good to be amongst those that understand that if you never allow someone to fail you also do not allow them the opportunity to understand that they have the power to pull themselves up from that failure, to start again and to succeed. This is the true genius of the American capitalist system. One is able to strive, fail and try again until they triumph.

Ex-hippie eh.

I was reading something, can't remember where, about how most of the Tea Partiers were boomer-aged males reliving their old "street fightin man" days except from the right.

Once upon a time I was a Democrat.

The Democrats took an even harder turn to the left and I took the middle fork because I could not make myself vote for Bill Clinton.

I could not vote with a party that no longer had the views that I do, who vote for things I'm horrified about and ways and means that I feel in the long run are disastrous four this country.

Now having said that.

Do not make the mistake of identifying me only with the Republican party, I am a Conservative front and foremost and have NO qualms voting for a Democratic candidate or any other if I feel they are following a path that is good for this country.

You think Bill Clinton was hard left? Seriously?

Bill Clinton wanted to expand the gov't healthcare role.

GOv't healthcare is communism.

Bill Clinton is a far leftist.

whoever wrote that doesn't have a clue and doesn't want one...best to invent a reason why a tea party protester is in the street than believe they're out there for a genuine cause

And the numbers are growing thanks to Obama.

I am a pure libertarian. I will vote either Republican or Democrat, depending on which candidate I think wants the least government intrusion in my life.

My distrust of government is equivalent to my fear of my cancer.

Generally, there are few Democrats that I can support. There are also many Republicans I can not support. For example, I will support Rubio over Charlie Crist in my home state.

Yeah, the boomer demographic is where the loot is. The anger here isn't the war, it's the looting...

Hey, you don't get it. The Democrat Party has a total with us or against us philosophy and no matter how many times you say you're not a Democrat they are going to assume you're lying because being a Republican is something to be ashamed of and hide, but they know, they know who you're shilling for...

;) ;) :(

You think Bill Clinton was hard left? Seriously?

Not after he lost both houses of Congress, then he became a finger in the wind pragmatic centrist which mirrored the path he took after SHE got his ass kicked out of the ArKANSAS governorship.

That's when her majesty finally took his name and began taking baths and dressing like part of the middle-class...

;) ;) :)

... then he, like Claire McCaskell recently did, ran as a "I'm JUST like you gun-lover and Bible thumper" so he could get back into the governor's mansion and back on HER path to the Presidency...

That whole free-trade agreement, ending welfare, balanced budget thing was just a smokescreen.

The Free Trade agreement opened the door for China. Then there were those pesky illegal Chinese campaign donations that had to be returned. Welfare ended? He balanced the budget by stealing from SS. Globalization of Economies has worked out well.

Israel has undue and unwarranted influence in US congress. Why don't we hear more about Jane Harman and her conversation with the Israeli spy? A Congresswoman trading favors with a foreign spy That is treason? Oh but it's Israel so no one talks.

That is one incident of a thousand. Israeli ideologues own the neocon movement and hijacked US foreign policy through it. They are killing American kids in service of Israeli foreign policy goals. That is criminal and treasonous.

There is no reason for American kids to die in Iraq or Afghanistan. These fool wars help the US not at all. Helps Israel though. Helps defense contractors. Helps warmongers and globalists.

You are a traitor and your transparent attempt at hijacking conservatism in service of some global elitist empire is diseased.

You can't refute a word I said, because it's the truth.

You are anti-trade? What about the Free Market?

You are anti-trade? What about the Free Market?

Free market mythology is just that, a theory put out to give cover to those who are using every legal and financial means and some illegal means to acquire as much wealth and power as they can.

At some point, at some tipping point, the oligarchy has so much money and so much political power that democracy is a joke, and only hand-selected clowns who serve the corporations are allowed to run for the offices.

Clear the US reaches this stage today with the lying Obama.
