Finally. I posted athread on here a little while ago about a story which I had 80% finished and then I lost (thanks to all the people who gave me advice on that one) and then couldn't recreate it.

I started writing it again, but always ended up with a very stilted staid start, if indeed I wrote anything down at all.

IT was the strangest thing though. I decided to try again, switched on my lava lamp (very sparkly), lay down on my beanbag and switched on a CD. The CD was Hooray for Boobies by the Bloodhound Gang, which I can't help but sing along to, the lava lamp was sparkly in the corner of my eye and there was all sorts of miscellaneous crap spread around me which distracted me. I managed to write, because I couldn't think about it for too long, because I kept getting distracted by stuff, whether it was a book near me, a favourite lyric or just sitting and watching the lava lamp. And for some reason that allowed me to get back into my rhythm.

It's not finished yet, but now I've started, it'll get finished. Has anyone else ever done anything similar?

PS: Apologies for the long sig. I have to explain the new av celebrating my 375th post :D

if I'm having trouble writing I'll put on the movie moulin rouge or something similar (dangerous beauty). Getting dristracted can sometimes help my writing or at least get me going again. I will also put on modern broadway (modernbroadway.com) and that usually get's me singing along until I can write again.

Earl...CONGRATS :) That's fab

I find that I don't need any distractions to distract me. I'm always doing exactly as you described when I write. I'll sit there and my mind will wander here and there. Suddenly I'll be playing solitaire or mahjong for a few minutes then I'll write some more and then I'll be off thinking about something completely different. Then I'll come back and write, then off my mind will go on another trip. It's probably a good part of the reason why I'm a fairly slow writer.

Music does help me focus. The louder, harder the music the better. Soft easy listening music doesn't work at all for me. And I absolutely couldn't have a TV on around me at all.

P.S. Earl, Thank you for changing your icon. Now I no longer have to flinch whenever you post :)

I find that the next-door neighbour's kids playing rap music at mach. 5 - loud enough to set off car alarms a block away - is enough of a distraction for me. :(

When I wrote my part of the Chain Story, "It Happened One Night ch.5", I kept getting distracted by the movie "Mighty Ducks of Anaheim" on channel 6...

Maybe that's why there's an unexplainable timewarp in my story..?

Just had a similar coincidence today -

I played through Ikaruga and almost beat it without a continue (not an easy task - just ask anyone who's played it. I've only done it once myself). That boosted my spirits. Then I went to my computer, opened a story that's been on hiatus for over a year, and somehow knew what to write next at the part that had me stumped.

And now, the Lesbian scene is complete! Yes!

Onward to the second rape scene!

in my opinion, a clearing of the mind in different ways can give us a chance to relax. often when we relax our thoughts we are able to achieve what we previously thought unsurmountable.

music is one way, having the eyes focusing on one particular object is another... there are many ways i would think.

if think about when you last walked into a room and forgot why you were there... if you retrace your steps or simply relax, the reason for being there comes back.

Ah.......

Masturbations good too. Clears the mind.........

Wow........thanks!

"Not to mention clearing the the living room of Jehovah's Witnesses."

I'd never thought of that......though here in Utah it's the mormon's more than anything you have to worry about. Suppose it would work on them too? Or would they most likely want to form some sort of circle instead do ya think?

A mormon circle jerk? Ewww. You think cum would stain those white undies?

Well, frist "Hooray for Boobies" is a great Album. "Oh Jim!"

Second, I usually dream on it. Literally. As I am drifting off to sleep I see the story in my minds eye like a movie, and as I fall asleep my sub con completes it for me.

LMAO at Quasimodem...

Well, I have certainly picked up a new way to remove unwanted Christian extremists... and here was me thinking the ultimate was opening a door wearing a t-shirt reading "my illegitimate daughter went to Waco and all I got was this lousy t-shirt."

Anyway, to get back to the original point, I can't work with music. If its something I have to do, an essay to a deadline or suchlike, I tend to just lock my door, take the phone off the hook and force myself to keep writing until its done. If its a story for lit, or my non-erotic novel, I just don't bother. I generally find I write best if I'm quite tired, if I know there is nothing else I need to do, and if I am warm and comfortable. Music, TV in the background, etc, just provides a distraction.

As to masturbation, lets just say that my stories generally have the effect on my fiance that renders it unnecessary at best... so I wait.

Would you call that an oxi-mormon?

I understand that the circle jerk is a traditional formation, commemorating the 'drawing the wagons into a circle' manoeuver that ended every day's travel during the Great Trek to Utah. It is not considered a sexual configuration at all.

I have also been led to believe that the Choir, snaking its way onto position on stage is quite an impressive sight.

The only Oxi-mormons, were the ones pulling the wagons. :D

However, I have always considered 'Mankind' an oxymoron. :(

Natural Born Eros: You don't like any music at all? I tend to listen to music which I've heard millions of times and can sing along to without it distracting my6 attention from what I'm doing. To me it's just another way of shutting the door on the world.

However stuff like Eminem or Hooray for Boobies tends to require too much thought, so I can't usually write to them.

Don't get me wrong, I love music, I just can't work to it. I share a house with five students who will all sit in the same room, talking, laughing, watching TV and still getting work done. I can't do it. Give me silence until I've finished concentrating, and then break out some riotous big band jazz. Thank you.

Until recently I have written with any kind of music and often found myself getting distracted by the words. Now I have some easy listening Classical compilation CDs and find that they are great to write by.

In one day I wrote 5000 words of the Novella I am working on. So for me it has to be classical music - because I do not really like it - As a listening choice I prefer Rock or Jazz and even a little Country music. All of them distract me when I am writing.

That, good sir, is a BMW Z3 no longer in production. They have replaced it with an ugly little bugger they have dubbed the Z4. The Z4 is a little bigger than the Z3, but just damned butt ugly. Someone at BMW needs glasses or perhaps they just wanted to ensure that the Z3 became a classic.

WOW masses of posts to reply to.

Big Texan thank you kindly sir for your prompt response. I agree with you on the stylists / market men at BMW - However BMW are responsive to customer demand. If you recall they were going to junk their twin cylinder "boxer" motorcycles in favour of the watercooled "bricks". They reversed that decision because of customer response.

Maybe bikers are a more cohesive voice than sportscar owners?

WSO,

You've read that 5000 in the first lot I sent. Today I managed a pretty meagre 2000 - mainly because of distractions that keep impinging. Have finished chapter five and I am now into chapter six.

thought I'd save up some instalments:p :p :p
