Not something I normally do. To me, fiction is the kind of thing I get on Kindle.
A decent biography will tempt me to buy the hardcover, but that's usually it.
Anyway, I went and bought The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, Steig Larsson. Never read anything by this author.
It had better be good... especially as lit comments were part of the reason for me contributing to the demise of a few trees!

Great book.

Great book.

I'm hoping so as I very rarely read fiction of any kind.
But it seems there's a divide - some loved it, some hated it.
Saving it for the weekend. We're going to have tanning weather for the second time in two years, so I shall be on the back lawn in a bikini on a rug with a jug of margeuritas at the ready :)

It's a well written book.

Can you turn pages and read whilst getting fucked?

I'd say that you've planned your reading window poorly. *chuckle*

The only ones home will be my son and I.
The man is off to his sisters house to do some much-needed maintenance.
One of the reasons I need a book!

Read away then kiddo. Get back to me when you're done.

Just when you think you've seen it all, a thread is posted where GB'ers revel in their illiteracy.

Thank you very much, your sense of social responsibility is greatly appreciated.

Good luck with the fiction thing. I was off it for many years but have met a guy recently who has turned me on to some interesting material. It opens up a whole new world of interest.

I read Non Fiction

Why . . . do you normally read non-fiction books, as oppose to fiction?
I read mostly non-fiction books, but have occasionally wandered off to fiction novels just to see what the hoopla is all about, one of which is this book you caved to read.:)

Personally, the plot didn't pique my interest as much as the main character herself, which is odd since it's usually the plot the sells a book. . . hmmmm. Overall, I thought it was a good read though I have to say, a little puzzled at the amount of exposure it currently enjoys:confused:. It's good but, personally, I didn't think its THAT good -- I've had better, LOL!

Anyways . . . happy reading!

I thought it was a great read once I got past the first 100 boring pages.

Ever notice that whenever there's any kind of book thread everyone comes out of the woodwork to proclaim that they don't read fiction? All the fiction that's sold every day and nobody reads it. Uh-huh.
Like people that claim they don't read Stephen King. Please. He didn't sell a zillion copies to one old lady book club in Bangor, Maine.

It does start a little slow. Odd considering how fast paced the rest of the book and series are. Some of the setup was simply unnecessary and I'm a little surprised the publisher let it go. Still, get past that and it's the definition of awesome.

I think it more drawn out and tedious because so much of the exposition was written as dialogue too. He should have just said "I met Informant Dude on a boat and he told me ______." I'm still on the second book, so I don't know if there's more to come, but a lot of the expository detail about Weinerstrom (sp) seemed pointless.

Though you can wander off into other tributaries of reading for years and just let Fiction drop. I have been reading a lot lately only because I met someone who turned me on to some interesting stuff.

I have read all of Stephen Kings Short Stories but no novels.

I read lotsa fiction. The trick is finding 1st rate fiction writers.

Kings short stories are some of the best you can find. He won the O.Henry award for The Man in the Black Suit and probably deserved it for quite a few others.
