I am surprised at just how unexciting this one seems to be.
I dont know why,,
but..........
tonite and last nite seem to be just okay
and not too terribly exciting,,,,,,,,,,,,
anyone else feel this way?

hiya Siren!
I hear what you are saying....but it is only the start of the
Games.....I know it will get better. I'm not sure what
fave events you enjoy watching, but I know one event
for sure, hockey, will be on CNBC or MSNBC (have to check
the listings!). I know that some people are already making
assumptions that its not as exciting, but its only the beginning.

If you like, I invite you to join up on my thread here on the
General Board in regards to the Olympics:
http://www.literotica.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=67253

also for any up-to-the- min. coverage on the Games....
you can check out www.nbcolympics.com

Hope to see ya on the thread! :)

always good to get both sides of the story.

I didnt really care for the first half of the opening ceremony either

This looks about like the place for this post.

I didn't watch much of the Opening Cermonies, mostly because I was out deliering pizzas to folks who were.

But when I got home I turned on the TV and saw....a male figure skater with some sort of flames coming fron his skates.

My first thought when I saw that was: "Well there you go. Proof that male figure skaters are flamers!"

As I told someone later that night, "Nothing says Olympic competition like a figure skater on fire..."

Thanks Tigerjen

:p

You're welcome, Siren

Hey, I respect your opinion, and others, though I may
not always agree.

I think what was real cool that some of the countries
paid tribute by carrying little American flags as they
marched in...I know the French carried in little flags with
their tri-color on one side, and our Stars and Stripes
on the other.

I will agree with the statement of the Olympics should
be a time of joy and celebration though....in a way,
it was.

but sometimes ya just gotta pull away from the crowd,,,,
especially since yours was so gungho over the olympics and mine is kinda negative.........

I thought it was best to have mine separate.

I didnt really care for the first half of the opening ceremony either..........I thought it was too much of a downer and that we were making seem like it was Americas Olympics instead of the Worlds Olympics.

Sometimes we act like we are the only people in the world and the rest of the world are just spectators.

Our pain is more
our sorrow is more
and our victories are more than anyone else in the world.

It just seems that way to me.

I thought the opening was too much about US and not enough about the Olympics.

oh well.

Sorry, Siren, but I have to call you on that one. I think the Salt Lake City Organizing Committee did a magnificent job on the opening ceremonies. I, too, was hesitant because I thought it was going to be another Atlanta with wall-to-wall American patriotism.

They said they wanted to honour all those from many nations who perished at the WTC. The balance between American patriotism and International celebration was damn near perfect.

I take my hat off to them, they put on a wonderful show.

well the first real controversy of the olympics in figure skating

:p

Personally, I've been watching the games, but haven't really been that interested until tonight. I did get a bit more interested when the commentators on the Pair's Free Skate said that the judges had made bad calls, and even said that they were flat out wrong. It was the first time anyone I have spoken to thus far can remember hearing them comment on the judging like that.

Just adding that I thought the Canadian pair was totally shafted. They were flawless. Their preformance was beautiful and graceful. No way did the Russians deserve that gold medal.

The judges are real dumb!

I already commented in my Olympic thread about tonight's
skating event.....but I will say my piece here too....

Really sad.....the Canadians did an awesome skate,
and still got the silver :( There is subjectivity among
some of those judges for sure.....really terrible.

You could see how upset Sale was....had to keep dabbing
her eyes to keep the tears back.......don't know how she
kept her composure throughout the medal ceremony....
had real courage to hold her head high.

I've always loved ice skating in the Olympics.......but
I think for the first time tonight ever a competition
that got judged like this made me really angry.......

Nor did the other Russian Couple deserve Fourth, especially when compared with the US. That they gave the Chinese (with all of those mistakes) very close marks to the Canadians (the judges who voted Sale and her partner second), just showed me that there was something going on there. Personally, I'd call for an investigation.

I would agree with an investigation. The whole thing looked fixed.

An investigation should be in order!!

Hey, with all that hype going on with the media saying
that the Russians could be toppled from their "dynasty"
in pairs....who knows what thoughts were going thru
the judges minds......

I second that......I would demand an investigation!
Who else agrees?

tigerjen

they wont do anything, just moan alot as usual

:p

I didn't even think about that aspect, Siren....good point
you've got going here.

but as long as you allow double upped judging by soviets with strong alliances to each other still..........
such as Russia and Ukranine
you get two votes instead of one.
and wow guess what?

they vote for Russians over others.
big surprise.

They need to give the Russian Republic one judge
either Russian or Ukrainian.

But not both.

That is like giving USA an east coast and west coast judge.

wow, think maybe we might give two votes to USA?

it dont take a rocket scientist to figure this out folks.

At one point, didn't they actually suspend the Soviet Judges? It was mentioned in passing, and I never did get a chance to find out. (Ok, I admit it, I'm not old enough to remember most of the Olympics that have happened in my time.)

I remember hearing something like that, but I don't
recall.......wish I could remember! ACK!

Comment on Pairs skating..

was talking to a friend this morning and I have a comment on the whole Silver going to the best skaters....
you also have to look at the Russian pair that went after the American's and knocked them out of contention, the commentators said they weren't as good as the Americans were...so basically I think we can chalk the pairs medal fuckup to bad officiating...
And then there's the theory that I came up with this morning....
look into history....American and Canadian pairs are always (well almost always) a much more attractive pair...good looking guys and gals, and they never ever win....conspiracy?? look at the judges they're always ugly old people!!!!!

take it for what it's worth, just a little bit of humor for an otherwise horribly officiated olympics...
