I just discovered that the Lit people took away good votes on nearly every one of my submissions. Votes that have survived the last two sweeps in some cases, and now most of my poems and all but one of my stories has dropped in score and most of my poems don't have enough votes anymore to qualify for an H...assuming they didn't lose too many good votes to remain above a 4.5. *steaming mad*

WTF? Why are they stealing good votes from me that have survived multiple sweeps already?

Have you tried asking them? :rose:
Never occured to me...lol People who have good reason to recieve a responce from them sometimes never get one. I would have figured they would just ignore me. *shrug*

I was venting and hoping someone in here might know somthing that I don't. *sigh*

I pm'd Laurel yesterday and got a response within a couple of hours. Make your subject line something that will catch her attention, pertaining to the problem you're having. She is very helpful if it has something to do with your submissions.

A PM to Laurel never hurt. :rose:

It could be that someone voted more than once and the duplicate votes were just now removed. (I used to vote each time I read something back when I first came to Lit and hadn't been to the boards. It never occured to me then that it wouldn't be right to do so. ) I don't know if they have more than one type of sweep. If they do, maybe that's why these were just removed?

It's all guessing, really. I'd ask Laurel.

I'll give it a go...*crosses fingers*

The sweeps are likely run on different criteria. For instance, they have been tallying up monthly winner scores. If these stories/poems fell in the range of january-now, there is a possibility that a sweep designed to clean up the vote totals for those months got you. The last few sweeps were mostly nude-day contest related, and the sweep criteria probably targeted those.

It may just be that someone who *really* likes your work *really* hates someone else's ( or a category, etc ) and because they were bombing other things, an IP sweep erased their good votes on your work while eradicating their trollish votes elsewhere.

Any number of sweep criteria, utterly unrelated to your stories, could have caused your votes to vanish.

I've had stories drop into the toilet when 5's vanished, and I've had stories rocket back up to the top out of the toilet when low votes vanished. Most of mine have, fortunately, either gone up or not gone down much when they did. You never know what you're going to get when a sweep comes through.

I entirely lost relationship with my scores a ways back. I used to care, and a lot, now I'm pretty blase' about it.

I've had that happen Tom.

I believe it's as Dark said, there are different types of sweeps.

The time I lost a lost of votes, and the story involved went down in score was just before year end. What's really funny is the story is now back to the score it was before the sweep and has had the vote count restored as well.

*HUGS* Tom. It's a pain, I know. But it's also one of the things I like about Lit. They try really hard to make the scoring fair.

Random question- do they only even out scores for contest entries, or do they do it site-wide? Because truthfully, my spate of viciously being trolled seriously arseraped some of my scores- I had top ten ratings on three of the four most viciously trolled ones, and they've been completely dropped off the Top list due to the trolls. (I had something like six one votes in a row, in less than a day on one of them, lol) I'd love to have those scores evened up so that I can see where I really am at on those pieces.

They do other sweeps too, whenever suspicious patterns emerge.

You might consider going to each story that has been bombed, using the "report" link at the bottom of it, and in the "other" section, list that you think votes on/around ( date ) are suspiciously trollish. Upon taking a look at it, they might agree and do a sweep based upon criteria they find in the voting patterns within those stories.

You could end up helping others who were trolled by the same person(s) as well, if they sweep low votes from the same accounts/ips in that range of dates. I've done this a couple of times before, and watched numerous stories that were trashed at the same time as mine rise back up as well.

*sips her coffee, pondering this and figures that just answer and be done with it*

The sweeps are done for a few reasons:
trolls - intentional one bombs that are voted merely to destroy a stories rating
multi-voters - votes that are done by the same person OR on the same computer... meaning don't have your SO vote for your story from your computer or it will log with 'LIT number' on it and it will get removed
contradictory voting - if someone votes a 2 on your story and then votes a 100% on the little doodad thing.... those are cleared up
contest sweeps - those involved in the contest will have their stories swept because historically entering a contest means that the trolls will not just hit your contest story but they will hit your other stories as well

They have to find who the category nominees were for February, March's Winners, March nominees, April Winners, April's nominees, May's winners, May's nominees, June's winners, June's nominees..... so be prepared everyone, the ratings, views, and reads are going to go wanky until they are finished doing all of those things... so don't panic and remember..... they are working hard to get it finished.

*goes back to reading, reviewing and drinking more coffee*

Thanks for reviewing the rules, y'all. I think I get the voting system better now. I still would much prefer a greater amount of feedback, but the scores are nice.
