Nope, this would be my first year. I just did a route map and Naperville is a little farther than I had remembered. It'll take me about two and half hours to get down there. Still close enough for an all day trip if I can't afford to get a room for a night.

It is not unusual for us to drive 365 miles, go fishing for day, and drive 365 miles home...

wow, a 21 hour trip, that's pretty impressive AS, I've never travelled for anywhere near the long in my life. Then again, I'm a shut-in lol, so I guess that statement isn't going to be surprising anyone.

I live in SE Texas... I don't have to drive quite that far to get the ocean, but it is still over 70 miles to Galveston....

Actually I went to New Orleans the summer of 2003 for a conference. That is where I met Midori and Jay Wiseman.

I find that anywhere I go is worth it and the best part is meeting other people.

I had the time and money available at the time of the 2001 and 2002 Orlando Bashes (interestingly, the 2002 Bash was not in Orlando, but somewhere on the east coast of Florida, though at the moment, I can't remember where). My then-wife/sub and I attended a goodly number of the seminars - not always the same ones - including an outstanding two-hour class on the legalities of BDSM relationships, and how to deal with legal issues that may arise in them - allegations by others of spousal/partner abuse, what to do if your private play party is raided because of neighbor complaints, etc. - with examples of some of the horrendous outcomes that can occur, as well as some hilarious examples of how such outcomes were avoided.

We've all heard some of the horror stories, but how many of us have heard about the couple who went to court with the husband accused of domestic violence when the police came through the door on a neighbor complaint and found the wife strapped to a spanking bench and the husband vigorously wielding a 3/8" cane on her bare bottom? The judge, known to be extremely hard on men accused of domestic violence, threw the case out as soon as the wife quietly said (at a sidebar requested by her attorney), "Your Honor, every bit of what we were doing was and is consensual. We're adults in our own home, doing what we both want."

Her attorney was amazed at the speed with which the judge dismissed the charges and asked, "And why did you ask me to make sure your case was heard by Judge X? How did you know he'd dismiss the charges?" The wife just smiled and said numbers told her that he was the best judge to hear the case. The attorney looked at her, even more confused. "Numbers?"

"Numbers," the smug woman answered... "the dozen or so times he was at the same play parties we were, getting his ass beaten by a Domme who's not his wife!"

We also attended classes on flogging, wax play, fire play, toymaking (floggers and pervertibles), as well as at least dropping in on most of the evening play parties held on the top floor of the hotel (the whole top floor and half the next floor down were reserved for Bash attendees), and getting to play with/on some of the dungeon furniture provided for demo purposes by builders/manufacturers, and visited all the vendors, spending more than I had planned on toys...

Would it be worth it? If it's of the quality of the Orlando Bash, I would answer with a resounding "Yes!"

I'm trying to decide if I'm going to be able to afford to go now. I looked at the registration costs and started coughing. I was hoping to drive down for a long day, drop $30 or so to get in and then drive back. Now I'll have to get a hotel room on top of the registration fee. It looks like it will be worth it, but I just have to tot up the numbers to see if I can swing it.

In 2001/2, when I went, I lived in Tampa, so it was only a matter of 2-3 1/2 hours driving time. Now I live in E. Tennessee, and it would be a major drive - about 9-10 hours each way - and the expense would be substantially higher, and on the separation/divorce budget I'm on now, will unfortunately be out of the question, unless I win the lottery I'd really rather attend one a bit closer now, though I did have a lot of fun there both years.

Ohh, well that does put a damper on things. We're most likely attending this year provided my pet is all healed up from his recent surgery. We can shop and watch if nothing else.
