I can't see the video but I assume this is about the candiru fish, yes? Swims up into the urethra? It was actually long thought (by scientists) to be apocryphal, but they've finally had a few cases turn up in hospitals. It's apparently quite rare, but as I recall it prefers men. From what I remember it can be removed without permanent damage to the penis.

yes it can swim up inside you, or it can travel up a pee stream if urinateing.. and while if you get to a hostpitle it can be removed usualy without amputation needed. but one of the more historic cases of it.. the man had sugh a disteneded belly from being unable to urinate that he looked 6 months pregnant...

Well, that's how it gets up you. They're attracted by the urine. For the most part, if you don't pee in the river, you're safe. And even if you do, as long as you're wearing Speedos, you're safe. I don't think a human could get a distended belly from being unable to urinate though...reportedly, when the candiru swims up you, the pain is quite debilitating and you'd rush to the hospital and not drink anything on the way!

The important thing to note is that this is VERY RARE and EASILY PREVENTABLE. There has only been one well-documented medical case. Everything else is anecdotal from the villagers who live in the region. And again, if you take some simple precautions, you'll be fine!

• Wear a tight-fitting swimsuit (not boxers)
• DON'T PEE IN THE WATER!

there have only been 2 or 3 reported cases, i believe is what i read, and they also use something to dissolve the fish in same cases instead of surgery. there is alot of folklore about it, and for a long time it was thought of as a myth, until someone went to the hospital and they documented the case. *shrugs* interesting stuff, and i'm glad i don't have a penis and if i did, i wouldn't be peeing in the amazon, as long as ya don't pee, you're fine, it's attracted to the ammonia smell.

I'll probably never visit the Amazon. If I do I'll probably not swim. If I did I'd most likely not pee. If I did and I had a penis, a fish might not swim up it, but I'm taking no chances.
