The graduating class of Mt. Whitney high school in Visalia, CA in a graduation speech.

Rule 1:
Life is not fair - get used to it.

Rule 2:
The world won't care about your self-esteem. The world will expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself.

Rule 3:
You will NOT make $40,000 a year right out of high school. You won't be a vice-president with a car phone until you earn both.

Rule 4:
If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss.

Rule 5:
Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your grandparents had a different word for burger flipping -- they called it opportunity.

Rule 6:
If you mess up, it's not your parents' fault, so don't whine about your mistakes learn from them.

Rule 7:
Before you were born, your parents weren't as boring as they are now. They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes and listening to you talk about how cool you are. So before you save the rain forest from the parasites of your parents' generation, try delousing the closet in your own room.

Rule 8:
Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life has not. In some schools they have abolished failing grades and they'll give you as many times as you want to get the right answer. This doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.

Rule 9:
Life is not divided into semesters. You don't get summers off and very few employers are interested in helping you find yourself. Do that on your own time.

Rule 10:
Television is NOT real life. In real life people actually have to leave the coffee shop and go to jobs.

Rule 11:
Be nice to nerds. Chances are you'll end up working for one.

Hell, it's like he has morals or somthing.

ROFLOMAO

Damn it's good to see that he didn't forget all he went through.

i'd say that all he said is true, but i cant see why he'd say it to a high school class at graduation. hell, i'd be scared shitless to go to college then, let alone to get a job..

I love that. He reminds me of my parents, well when I appreciate them <smile>

That Speech would be great told to the students as they start Junior high and have a last three years to get thier act together

I do believe this is an Urban Legend.

I'd almost agree with you, sd412.

Someone said that, but I don't recall who, it was more than a few years ago though. Knowing what we know about Billy boy, he probably stole the idea from someone, and made it his own, by throwing a few extra lines in.

I must be the fucking queen of spreading garbage around. Sorry.
:(

I see what you mean W&U, and aside from it being true or not, the idea of this appeals to me to be brought to the attention of highschool kids, because too many high school kids think they have the world figured out and are over confidant, while really lacking the fundimentals of understanding the way the world really works. Maybe if they were a bit more scared when entering college (not about things like social acceptance, and good hair, tail hunting and parties) they wouldn't slack off so much, and end up flunking out, because they partied too much and then whine because no one catered to thier egos.

Life it tough. Kids have it easy. They are spoiled. Some are pretty rotten and they will only blame the world for their troubles.
It gets old. Especially when they have it 'better' than any other generation before them.

The first step would be to see if that HS exists, often the places in these things aren't real.

Also the style is too strong to be BG's, Imo.

the funny thing is, how this ONLY seems to come out at graduation time, and practically no other time during the school year. But this is about the 5th year in a row I've seen it.

Now, let's not jump to conclusions. It is easy to make stuff up about real places too.

Don't you dare try and make me look good, you pee pee person, you. :D

I agree with Todd, regardless of the source of the speech.

Yes, I agree too P1. Natilie Portman could deliver the speech while she is getting her 'turn'.

*slurp* :p

Oh wow, are people bitter towards the younger generation or what? Sure, they (we?) have it easy in some ways, but they have it a lot tougher in other ways. Dealing with more drugs, violence, sex in school, more broken homes, more serious issues like terrorism (I don't know about you, but I'd have fucking hated to be a seven year old on September 11th and find out just how terrible people can be to each other)... the list goes on and on. They are required to know more on the whole -- whereas many adults out there only took math up to Trigonometry, many kids now are expected to complete at least the first level of calculus. There's far more knowledge for them to have in the math and science arenas than there used to be.

So there are a few bad apples -- you can't judge the whole generation based on a few negative experiences. Remember when you were a kid and the adults told you how spoiled rotten you were with your computers and your television and all that drivel? Remember how terribly old-fashioned they sounded? I'm going to try damn hard not to sound that way, but I'm not so sure how much hope some of you hold out. ;)
