I Am A Downloading Fool

i'm just a regular fool :) but that's beside the point

some artists to search for:

elliot smith (singer/songwriter)
susan tedeschi (blues, maybe a little too country for you though)
dexter freebish (alternative rock)

have fun.

LOL. I'm amazed at how many people here hate country music. Am I the only one here who has a Real Jukebox filled with country music (Faith, Garth, Shania, Alan Jackson, the Chicks....) loaded on my hard drive?

I have the Chicks,Faith, and Garth on mine. I also have Lonestar,my newest country fav.

I'm a fool for anything Dave Matthews or Incubus. If I can find their live stuff even better. They might be something you want to try.

Try some *really* interesting classic rock from Crack the Sky. They are an American eastcoast band that almost made it national in the 80's.

A few choice tracks from them:
"She's a Dancer"
"Hot Razors in my Heart"
and "From the Greenhouse"

I really doubt you will find anything from them, but if you do, let me know what you think.

oh, and while these two aren't that obscure, i'm really into their music right now and so of course i think everyone else should be too :)

van morrison
cat stevens

Some suggestions - this is some of what's in my MP3 player at the moment...

Zappa - if you're not already a fan you should be...

King Crimson - knowing your interests see what you can find from "Beat" (try Neal and Jack and Me)... or the album "Three of a Perfect Pair" --- or anything...

Clutch - sort of like Zappa but a current band - try the songs "Come on Motherfucker" or, especially for you "Texan Book of the Dead"!!!

George Clinton - Parliament/Funkadelic - look for his version of Prince's "Erotic City"

Dead Milkmen - great band... Try "Punk Rock Girl"

Tenacious D - Cock Pushups, They Fucked Our Asses, Rung Digga Dung

Residents - the first and still the best underground cult band with giant eyeball headgear - Diskomo, Constantinople, Harry The Head

DOWNLOADING FOOL
By Dillinger Zappa

Don't know much about downloadin'
That's why I got this song
One of my hard drives is smaller than the other
'N' both my ear's too long
'Course now right along with 'em
I got a new DSL rhythm
But I go downloadin' every night
Hopin' one day I might get it right
I'm a downloadin' fool, I'm a
Downloadin' fool
I hear see the MP3s; I jump outa my seat,
But I can't compete, 'cause I'm a
Downloadin' fool, I'm a
Downloadin' fool

Sorry, didn't know you were ill. Hope you recover soon.

In the meantime I'd reiterate what seXieleXie said about van Morrison and Cat Stevens.

For a little more modern, try Moby.

And if you truly want a little melancholy, try some of Freddie Mercury's later stuff.

Silly bluespoke, That's Epsom Salt or magnesium sulfate. It's also excellent for growing roses.

Here is another...

Iggy Pop, and Curt Wylde and the Wylde Rattz!!-TV EYE, Gimmie Danger.

Anything Velvet Underground, with or without Nikko, and then you have Lou Reed of course.

I've heard this new band "ABBA" will really light up the disco floor.

To follow up on my "CLUTCH" recommendation - I just listened to them for the past 90 minutes while working out - their Zappa influence is mostly from the Dirty Love/Overnight Sensation Period... Occaisionally I hear a touch of Pink Floyd Careful With That Axe Eugine/Astronome Domine (just a touch)... Definitely more than a little Black Sabbath... some Zep... Black Flag - hell, even some Sun Ra!... and cool lyrics...

"Watch light bend in the
blower, planets align, a king is born, Dodge Swinger,
Jesus on the dashboard."

They ROCK...

mp3.com has some good stuff

Girl made a good reccomendation with Soulpusher, so I thought I'd throw some other pretty good mp3.com stuff up. Of course it's hard, you've gotten a lot of ranges of music here.

Looks Like Me (very talented, fairly mellow stuff)
Tapping the Vein (she has a great voice)
Ethel, (Been a few years, but good mellow music)
Section 16 (Good music, a little harder)
Ebony Run (Alt rock, singer sounds a little like Maynard Y115BX is good)
SW1TCHED (if you like harder music)

With a high speed connection myself, I can listen to the music before I download. Much of the music on there is not very good, but occasionally I'll run across a band that has talent and deserves attention.

Now, some of my favorites

King's X and Poundhound (Good music, no recognition or credit for being extremely influential)
Spike 1000 (saw them with Union Underground, good energy)
Skunk Anansie (now disbanded and huge in Europe, but I've never heard a better voice)

Just my thoughts

Hey Lavy babe... have you heard Portishead? I very good friend told me about them... so I just downloaded a number of their songs and have been listening to them all evening... they're GREAT!!! *grin*
