I noticed, on the Site Announcements portion of the boards, that Manu had today posted a link to a site called Salon that includes Literotica in its list of top seven classy porn sites. We are listed at Number Five. So, first off, yay us! :D

But I was intrigued by the site in the Number One spot, Hysterical Literature. The premise is pretty simple: a woman reads from a book while, beneath the table, someone is pleasuring her with a vibrator. We see only her face and upper body as she attempts to continue reading while getting closer and closer to orgasm. Here's one of them, taken from the link on Salon's site:

Hysterical Literature - Stormy

I did a check on YouTube for others, and found this little gem as well:

Hysterical Literature - Stoya

Yes, that Stoya. ;)

I think it would be interesting to see a man in the same situation . . . .

Yeah, lots of things have been posted before. Ah, well. I hadn't seen it, so stands to reason I wouldn't be the only one.

Stoya is one of those rare adult actresses who actually has brains to match the body. In an ocean filled with the likes of Dakota Skye, Jesse Rogers and Chloe Foster, she's a tropical resort . . . or maybe, given that pale skin and dark hair, an Icelandic spa. :p

The reading by "Janet" is an interesting one. The woman looks like she's in her sixties, and she does an admirable job of maintaining her composure. "Classy" is right.

The Hysterical Literature concept seems awfully limiting and would, I think, get very "same/same" quite quickly. I don't see many following that for the long haul.

Funny you should say that, I could watch videos like that for days.

I do wonder if it's likely to get quickly drowned in a sea of imitators, though. I can see there are already wannabes appearing on YouTube.

I read Stoya's wiki, she went to college for awhile, designs her own clothing, definitely has a lot going on between the ears as well as the legs. She reminds me of the newer breed of porn star, many of them are far from the desperate runaways of years ago, Belle Knox, the outed Duke student is another example of that.

I love her because of her alt look, she's credited as being the first real alt porn star

BOnnie Rotten is another of my favs for that reason

It's definitely a niche market. I can imagine the videographer getting the idea one day and he happened to get one of the sexiest porn stars out there to read for him. But it does have limited appeal. In a way, it almost seems like a college party dare, just made more "elegant" by the black and white video.

And there's the flip side. ;)

Oh, there were bound to be imitators. I noticed the "girl rides a Sybian in public" clip on the sidebar. It's interesting to see the large number of almost-porn clips posted on YouTube. It's a fetish, I suppose, to watch clothed women and men engaging in sexual acts without even seeing their genitals.

I can eventually see Hysterical Literature eventually becoming obscure or giving in to pressure from viewers demanding more and wind up showing what's going on under the table. Better, I think, for the site to just fade away instead of cheapening itself into becoming "yet another porn site."

Until that happens, I'm going to find it highly entertaining the number of different and interesting facial expressions, movements, and so forth the women make. It's an interesting study in anthropology. :D

Teresa seemed to be both more sensitive and able to control herself longer than Stoya. I was wondering if her hand was going to fold the book in half when she came.

And there's the flip side. ;)
The obvious flip is gender reversal. A guy sits reading aloud whilst being fisted or blown below the fold. Hasn't this been done in anime already? Oh no, that's live on Japanese TV, with visible handjobs. (I think that was mentioned on the GB recently.)

Then there's the perv-bestial version: some animal is stimulated (off-camera); the lens captures their mindless ecstasy. I won't mention other possible perv-variants. Wouldn't be prudent. But I'm sure y'all can imagine some possibilities.

I looked at it last year or so when I saw it mentioned on the AH then. I love it but haven't been back.

It's truly memorable.

First time I've ever seen it. I saw the Japanese hand job game show clips on FB last night -- briefly amusing, but mostly weird. One girl was wearing a nurse's uniform, and a face mask like an operating room mask, but it had wicked looking spikes sticking out of it, like a costume from Mad Max. I didn't understand that at all -- seems a lot was lost in cultural translation.

Someone mentioned this specific series of clips on that FB thread, so interesting coincidence to see this link posted today. My husband and I just watched the Stoya clip -- she was delightful and sweet to watch. He makes me giggle like that...I didn't know other girls did that, too...

From what I've seen of adult Japanese game shows, they have a curiously extreme range not found in western fare, which contrasts with their supposedly ultra-conservative front. Public nudity dares, blowjob contests, etc. I've seen clips from a supposed (because I reserve the right to believe until after it's been documented) Japanese reality show in which female baristas masturbate their male clients until they ejaculate into a cup of tea . . . which the baristas themselves drink and remark upon.

My wife looks like she's in pain when she has an orgasm. Afterward, she's semi-coherent and only sometimes giggles (usually when I try to keep going). To me, she reacts much like a man, in that she does not seem to have that supposed glutton of energy afterward. She'd really just rather fall asleep with a smile on her face.

Truth be told, most of the women I've been with have had that same sort of general reaction following an orgasm. So, either the entire myth that women get a boost of energy from an orgasm is wrong, or I'm really that damn good. :p

I'm sure it's the former. ;)

MatthewVett posted about Hysterical Literature two years ago. The project was made in August 2012.

There don't seem to have been many copycat versions made since then? Anyone have links to any? The original project remains very popular.

I think what's fresh and different is that it's not porn, in the same way that burlesque is not stripping. I love burlesque because the women are choosing to strip in ways to please themselves, as subjects in a mutually pleasurable activity, not as the objects of men's gaze.

In Hysterical Literature the women write essays reflecting on taking part as well as being in the films. They've chosen to take part to challenge ideas about women's sexuality being shameful. It's not that it's shot in black and white, in a faux art-y way. The whole project comes from a different basis to porn, the primary aim is to allow the women artists to express themselves, and then that might please the audience too, not to offer something titillating for the audience which might incidentally be pleasurable for the artistes.

Remember, this is the culture that brought us bukkake and hentai tentacle porn. I don't really get those, either...

If I am exhausted afterwards, my husband thinks it is hilarious to sing softly in my ear, "I fucked the bitch to sleeeeeeeeep...I fucked the bitch to sleeeep..." Until I wake up enough to hit him with my pillow. Ha ha, funny guy.

Yes...it's like the difference between lesbian porn made by and for actual lesbians, with girls who are into each other, rather than "lesbian" porn made for cable where the two girls have identical blonde Barbie hairdos and pink lip gloss -- and when they kiss, they are both staring into the camera and jockeying for position to see who will look hotter in the shot.

Isn't that rather condescending.

Lit can get very 'samey' at times.

Why do you even bother floating around Lit. and dropping your sour comments, Elfin, after just being a deadbeat here for nearly a decade? No life outside of seeking attention here and pretending you have something constructive to contribute?

Sure there are same/same plot construction tracks at Lit.--lots and lots of them. With the site discussed, there is only one. "Only one" can get monotonous a lot quicker than "lots and lots" can. Not that you are able to understand this, as you haven't contributed to the story file for over nine years and didn't do much even when you were contributing.

I've seen these before, they're fun first time around, but it could get dull quick.

Call it the cynic in me, but I keep coming back to Stoya being a porn star. So real....maybe. Watch her movies and one of her best attributes is always smiling and laughing and appearing to very much enjoy the scene.

I was also a phone sex operator in college. Drop of a hat I can go from reading a shopping list to sounding like I just had mind blowing orgasm.

Just saying.

You mean... she could have been acting?!?!!

Say it ain't so! :D

Oh, I'm sorry!

I mean we all love it, all the time! In fact just saying the word cock can get me off!

Especially yours, you're so hot, baby, so big, so hmmm.....;)

I think Bob Chipeska said it best...

Good point :p

She could also be one of those porn stars who just genuinely has orgasms. Either way, I don't really care. The end result is the same: a good show.

In re: Japanese game shows, incidentally, I was under the impression that the more salacious stuff (blowjob contests et cetera) was actually just porn produced to look like game shows? Actual Japanese game shows can get weird and tacky, but I don't think they're allowed to cross that many boundaries.

I'm not invested enough to really know, to be honest. But even if it's staged porn, there's still an audience of (at least) hundreds cheering on the girls and guys getting freaky. In the same basic way as any other studio-hosted game show, it takes place in a studio, and there seem to be prizes at stake. I guess the only real determining factor is if it's shown (pixelated, of course) on same Japanese cable network, or if it's only available on DVD or PPV. By that point, does it even matter anymore?
