Well, well, well. It appears that this site has different rules for different authors.

I have already mentioned here that my first submission was rejected because it was involved a scene where a jilted husband took revenge on his wife and her lover by removing their genitals. I wasn't overly graphic in my description, but I made it clear what had happened. Two days after that rejection, I saw a new story by "FinishTheDamnStory" where his main character sliced off the genitals of his wife's lovers, burned the woman's nipples, sliced out the man's tongue, AND hacked off several fingers.

I guess that's okay, right?

So...I decided to write another story, where I followed up FTDS's story with another chapter, showing the consequences for all these actions. If you're not familiar with FTDS, he has made a Literitica "career" out of "finishing" the stories he doesn't like. Usually, by sewing on a Burn-the-Bitch ending to a story about wives who have sex outside the marriage with no negative consequences.

Today, a full week after my submission, I received yet another rejection notice:

"Because this is a derivative work of another Literotica author's creations, to avoid conflicts after posting we ask that you please contact the original author and get permission before submitting. Thank you!"

Well, isn't that nice?

FTDS claims to get the author's permission before he finished their stories, but he also admits to not getting permission for many of them because the author didn't respond. And I can't help but wonder how the admins verify that he has received permission. And given how he routinely tacks on "endings" to stories that completely destroy the original work, I find it hard to believe that any author would ever grant him permission to ruin their originals.

Hypocrisy? Or business as usual?

So...what did you expect? Fox news? Fair and balanced?

You have one person vetting all the stories here. In some cases she knows who they are, what they write and has learned that some of us wouldn't, won't cross the lines set out in the rules of engagement.

I have a story up that has the husband killing his wife and lovers. It's not overly graphic, but there is death involved.

I have had other stories here that involved killing and death and gore. It may be that what you wrote is objectionable to the editor/publisher. It may have depended on her mood that day, month, year.

As for completing or adding onto another authors story, it is required that you get their permission first. I know I would be upset if someone came along and added too or "finished" one of my stories.

As for Finishthedamnstory saying he hasn't gotten someones permission...there is a difference between bragging about something you didn't do and behind the scenes doing the right thing.

Just because I say I used to fly SR-71s, doesn't mean I actually did. ;)

Lit is consistently inconsistent.....I know that is not really an answer, but its the truth.

As for finishthedamnstory....

I don't like the idea of someone running around posting stories that are pretty much fan fic of others work.

There have been a few who came here and asked what people thought of that idea and it received more negative than positive, because as you say, how does anyone know the original author knows about this?

Worse is some dink that shows up here once in awhile who has books for sale that he "finished with the authors permission." That author is deceased BTW....

Makes me want to set up an account "writeyourowndamnstory"
