Hype Energy -- Can it be harnessed?

This is a question that came up on one of the pagan forums, during our annual Halloween Rant.

Would it be possible to harness the energy raised by advertising hype and use it? Does it make you feel "up" and energetic, or tired and drained?

Does it make you want to spend lots of money on Halloween costumes, decorations and treats?

The discussion concerned the frenzied advertising for all the "parties" at various amusement parks for Halloween, places to get the hottest costumes (Frederick's was mentioned!), and candy sales. There were other things that bothered us, but we are all rather bemused by the frenzy.

Anyway, it's an idle question.

There's a bakery here in Pittsburgh that's running a radio ad suggesting that now is the time to order your "Erotic Halloween Cake."

I still don't know WTF an "Erotic Halloween Cake" is...

Neither do I, Lasher. I'm trying to figure out the possible designs!

It's odd. The ad just mentions it so matter-of-factly. It's like, "And don't forget to order your 'Erotic Halloween Cake' today!". Like there's people driving around thinking, "Shit, forgot all about the damn 'Erotic Halloween Cake', I better order it now!".

It's had me confused for days.

It's got me totally stumped, Lasher. I've never thought of Halloween as a particularly erotic holiday.

I suppose it could be considered an erotic holiday if one is into necrophilia.

Now that really has me wondering about those erotic cakes.

Doesn't the fact that you were having a Halloween 'Rant' suggest that you were using that 'hype' energy, abet, in a negative way?

Of course Halloween is erotic - dispite whatever your views of it Halloween is not a day to celebrate the dead, death, or dying.

We are living in a kid culture these days and holiday hype feeds kids fervor quite nicely. I remember the good old days when I was a kid (70s), there wasn't a tv channel just for us and now I have 6 via satellite.
I've had this vision of what this whole "erotic cake" thingy. I'm seeing the end of The Cook, the Thief, his Wife and her Lover(horrible movie by the way) with the baked naked bad guy (or chick) laying on a table with some artfully arranged fruit (marzipan in this case) just waiting for everybody to dig in. Perhaps they can deliver this "person" in a old hearst to complete the effect?
Yes, yes I know I've perverse....it's a character flaw...

Frankly, it makes me wonder what's in those tacos and burritos that Lasher has been mucho gustoing. I mean, is it possible to get good mexican in Pittsburgh, anyway? I know you can't get it in Vermont. They only know one spice up here and they lacquer it on.

C'mon, Lasher, man! Dammit! If this has had you confused for days, pick up the phone or go over there and find out!

Enquiring minds want to know. :)

"My" views are shared by many, and for us it is a day to celebrate those who have died, honor the passing year, and greet the new.

Many cultures have a "Day of the Dead" of some sort.

I realize any day can be erotic; any particular day can be what anyone wants. However, the eroticism of Halloween escapes me. Doubtless because I'm too stupid to see it.

Well, Hmmm... I've only heard the commercial a couple times and only in the car, so I never really thought to write the number down. But just for all of you, I've just clicked over to broadcast.com and I've got the radio station (102.5 FM WDVE) playing in hopes that they'll play the commercial again and I can find out more about this damn "Erotic Halloween Cake" thingy. Maybe when Wizard gets here he can help us out. He might have heard the same commercial.

Oh, and surprisingly enough you can get good Mexican food in Pittsburgh (I was shocked, too). There's a place called Jose y Tony's on McFarland Rd in Mt Lebanon that's got damn fine Mexican food. I recommend the steak and shrimp fajitas... Them's good eatin'.

Okay, the next time I'm in the big "P", I'll meet you there and I'll buy the first pitcher of Margaritas.

We can talk about just what the hell Dixon was doing with your penis a few months back. :)

I love when he thrusts the knife in her side (or is it leg, I can't remember) and serves up a piece much to her horror! lol

Great song. Great video. Nuff said. In fact, I think I'll go put the CD on right now. :)

Erotic cake!

I think holloween in erotic to some people because of all the dressing up and pretending to be other people. Roleplaying and masks etc. Tom petty rules btw.

As to harnessing energy from the hype of holloween If you believe that people create energy pools that you can draw from all the partying and trick or treating the anticipation of kids and the decorating of houses has to generate alot of energy that you could draw from. I'm more of a fan of personal energy using what you have and focusing yourself but I don't rule anything out. I think you probably feel "up" and energetic if you are a part of the "hype" and down or drained if your just and observor. Maybe it's sorta like riding a wave instead of fighting against it.
