My wife and I went to the County Hurrican Preparedness Show today. It was well worth the drive to get there and we learned a lot. (I may have even found a company to Insure my trailer without having to go into debt.)

While we were there we had a bit of humor. The first was when my wife started talking with one of the Co-Anchors for a local News Station. This Anchor Woman had shifted from the morning news to the evening news when she had a baby. My wife told her she missed her on the Morning News, which got the two of them talkng. (She had only been on the morning news program for something like six months and seemed surprised that my wife remembered her.) My wife ended up having her picture taken with her as well as having video taken with my wife doing the hand sign for the program. Hmmmmm, maybe my wife will end up on TV?

Later in the morning we were looking over the displays for the local Sherriffs Department. I was looking at their displays about the Rapid Response Team and their E.O.D. Team when I was recognised by one of the deputies. He knew me from the shooting range and after pointing me out to one of his friends we started talking. They asked about my shooting, which I described. Then we started talking about their jobs.

I think I got their attention when I started asking questions about their remote controlled Robot. (I have a bit of experience with Robots, and while I'm no longer in the field I'm still interested.) I also asked a lot of questions about the technical aspects of their job, including some of the ways they destroy explosive devices without defusing them. I mentioned a couple of devices I had heard about recently, or thought about and they seemed interested. The next thing I knew the head of their department was talking with me. He was asking me some rather pointed questions, which I answered candidly.

I have been invited to his office later this week to demonstrate a couple of things I mentioned to him. (He also mentioned something to my wife about great employment possibilities. *gulp*)

Oh and did I mention we got some ideas on how to further fortify our trailer for the now here Huricane Season?

You're MacGyver, Cat!

Good God, someone who remembers that show.

I have a Multi-tool that I call my MacGyver. It's never beyond reach.

I always had to laugh at how he could make things out of the most basic materials, including chewing gum. (And yet I can't reember a show where he had Duct Tape, now why is that?)

My father is much closer to his style than I am. (Where do you think I learned?)

On the other hand that show did have a great message.
