Feel sorry for Jamaica mon. And like Texas needs mo rain. I can't remember the last rain in Georgia.

Comon over...I'll get ya wet?

My inlaws live on St Croix and were hit a bit.

...but Andrew & Hugo were much worse for them.

I hope that Cutie Mouse's J is safe. My thoughts are with J and her.

He's told me before that he chose the northeasternmost tip of the isalnd, because it protects him from hurricanes (though he does still get tropical storms). Calls aren't being answered, nor messages returned; right now I have no idea if it's due to weather/phone issues or what. (Have I mentioned yet how fucking sick I am of this oceans apart from one another/third world country/annoyingly busy business man stuff?)

Hang in there, sweet lady. :rose:

We were really hoping this would turn into a nice tropical storm and move up to Georgia. We NEED rain sooooooo bad!!

Edited that my thoughts and prayers are for those in the path.

From what I could figger out from reviewing all my weather sites, it looks as if the northern side of the DR got tropical storm conditions, but not much more, so J should be all right. Communications failure is probably due to the conditions all over that area, though... southern DR got at least some hurricane-level conditions.

No, communications failure was because the rat bastard had a last-minute-business-partner-drags-him-off-to-Santo-Domingo-for-5-days thing happen, in which he only had enough time to pack a suitcase, and he discovered too late that the fabulous 5 star 3rd world hotel didn't have a phone in the room. So he just got home 40 minutes ago, it's raining cats and dogs and the SUV kept getting blown all over the place getting home, he's gone to bed, and we'll catch up sometime tomorrow.

But he's safe, the dogs are fine, the house is fine, it's raining and windy, but nothing unmanageable.

Edited to add - I'm seriously pissed about his behaviour/decisions, but more rational and reasonable than the above paragraph sounds.

Sounds like he scared you a bit. You know, like when you can't find your kid and when you do you threaten to kill them?

No - he pissed me off by dissapearing for 5 days without warning, more than he worried me for being on an island in the path of a tropical storm.

Uh, no one had a working cellphone in those 5 days?

Not that you need me to rub it in, but....hm. Icky. Not that I think there's lying but lack of trying.

Ok. I have to say that'd piss me off, too.

Yep, mine has done things similar in days past. I've raised enough hell about it, though, that now he always emails me, or IMs me, or calls me, or otherwise lets me know when he's not going to be around.

Never fear. They can be trained, if they want to learn. ;)

Yeah. One difficulty with the whole 3rd world country thing, is that in order to place a cell call out of country requires a huge bond, plus the $5/minute fees, so when J set up the cell account, he didn't set it up to call out of country. Which means unless he's at home (where we can talk through the V.O.I.P line that is sattelite routed through Montreal), I have to catch him on his cell which he has to actually answer). It's an issue of technology and proper priorities.

So.

I've been... struggling with some inequality of effort with regards to communication; I brought it up 2 weeks ago and thought a solution was reached, similar issues arose again last week, and this week we had total silence from the DR for 5 days, because he went racing off on business, and didn't take 2 minutes to call before he left.

I told him tonight that he's still not making the efforts I've told him I need him to make, dissapearing on me is not acceptable, and I can not be in a relationship with someone who can't be bothered to warn me before he drops off the face of the planet when business calls. I'm going to continue that discussion with him this weekend. (This standing up for myself stuff sucks ass, BTW.)

*hugs* I'm sorry. And I have to say I don't blame you. He could have, at least, sent an email or something.

The lastest model has it slamming into Mexico and not the US. It could still dump a lot of rain on Texas though. It's so dry here the grass is turning brown.

It does, but I for one am proud of you for tackling it and keeping on it instead of allowing yourself to be swept away with the hope it may get better. Most things left like that only get worse as time goes on, not better.
