I live along the Texas Gulf Coast so I'm in the possible projected path for Rita over the weekend.
Now let me be clear- it's a projected path from Mexico to Louisiana on SATURDAY. But people here are already stocking up on essentials like gas (if I had stayed at the station it would have taken an hour to get gas. I'll be going out later this evening instead) and food. Ex's work (Petsmart) was crazy today with people buying kennels.
I know we need to be prepared and everyone is a little jumpy because of Katrina, but wtf?

The other side of this is my own jumpiness. If it comes my way, I'll totally be evacuating. Anyone have room for me and three kids?

If Sophie's coming to Vella and Lucky's, I may have to pack up my new girl and make the drive down. The temptation would be too great to avoid.

im not. seriously pm me if you need a place.

I just talked to a friend who said hotels between here and Tyler are all booked up. And did you hear that they called for a voluntary evacuation of Galveston already?
This is so crazy.

That's good to hear. I think alot of people are booking just in case. I know that's what my friend is doing.

Ok. We're still in talks. With three kids, it's not an easy task to make an emergency plan.

Sophia J.,

A word of advice. Make and finish your plans now. (Not tomorrow.) (I'm not trying to scare you here, just trying in my own way to make sure you stay safe.)

If Rita does grow as they are saying she might, and looks like she is heading your way then get the fuck out of her way. Stay at a friends place, stay in one room in a flop, just get the fuck out of her way. You have three kids and don't want to take the same risks you would take if it was just you.

If it turns out you evacuated and she did little or no damage that's a good thing. With kids it is much better to be safe than sorry. One of the worst things you can do is wait for the last minute then try to evacuate. If you do that you run the chance of being trapped on the roads, not a place you want to be during one of Momma Natures Blow Jobs.

Cat

SJ, you can come here. We can visit Carlsbad and alien town.

I'm with Cat on this one.
Be safe, good friend.

Ditto to the rest of the posts. Get the fuck out if this storm turns nasty. I know Ky isn't anywhere within the realm of reality, but you'd be welcome to come here. I can fix you some venison stew. ;)

Oh. Don't worry. If she's headed my way, I'll be on the road on Thursday. Where to, no one knows. Unfortunately, I can't make my plans until tomorrow because I'm missing several key pieces of information. But I will be somewhere else if she comes here.
The good news- I don't live right on the coast. I'm far enough inland that we shouldn't sustain too much property damage were she to hit. But...with three kids I'm not hanging out in 100 weather and no A.C and power.
I'll keep everyone updated.

You have two places in KY if you need them.

I'm sure there are closer people, but we have an extra bedroom.

I too would offer, but I'm in southeast Florida.

Cat

And you can come to my cabin in NC, too. :rose:

But all my hurricane supplies are in my FL house ... that will probably get looted.

We'll be sitting pretty here in the mountains, though.

Be safe!
