This is number 3 for me since moving here!

Hurricane party at my house this weekend, again, so bring your own batteries, booze and broads.

Wait...that's just not right. Batteries, check. Booze, check. Broads? No, no, no, no, no! I'm the broad!

Bring your own batteries, booze and bdsm toys! There...that looks better.

Anyway, I'll check in when I can as it's going to be a busy few days getting ready.

Oh the hurricane parties! The ones I remember and the ones....well I remember parts of. Then there were the typhoon parties. I remember the one year it seemed like every weekend we were doing hurricane prep at work and then on Monday or Tuesday pulling all the jets back out to fly a few days to stuff them back in the hangars.

Okay, I'm in. I've never been through a hurricane. The last one in these parts was Hazel in 1954.

I will pledge a bottle of good Canadian Rye, a deck of cards for strip poker, twenty-four AA batteries and 50 feet of new black rope.

Do I need to bring a chair?

I have retrieved bodies, and plucked desperate people from rooftops. I'm not laughing.

Twister, as someone born and bred in tornado alley, I appreciate your view. I really don't take this lightly and apologize if my cavalier attitude upset you.

Having said that, if I don't joke about it, I'm not sure how well I can get through these next few days without completely freaking out and I've got too many things to do for that to happen. This one appears to put us within 60 miles of the (most likely) dead center but the last one wasn't that close or that strong and we ended up with little damage. I don't think that will be the case this time.

I'm reassuring myself with the fact that my house is as old as I am and has withstood a lot more of these blows than I've experienced. I've also planned for as many contingencies as I can even down to learning how to use a French press so we won't miss our coffee!

We'll do the best we can with what we can.
:cattail:

No water, no gas, everyone is preparing. Except for those of us working. Not sure how this will turn out but we’ll be as prepared as possible.

Looking a lot better now than it did 48 hours ago. Hopefully it continues to turn.

Grew up in South Florida, and usually good for an annual hurricane scare. My dad even got jumpy and started putting up the shutters early. Part of living in Florida, though there is no place more prepared (all of the building codes are with hurricanes in mind, and then updated after big storms).

We are in a holding pattern now.

All the prep is done except for laundry, filling misc. papers that I will never be able to find again and moving the car up under the carport.

We are still in an area of concern but we're located at the southern edge of it so it's a coin toss at this point. Best case scenario is we'll catch a glancing blow.

On the bright side, all the prep gave me a little extra exercise and helped the weight loss! Yay me!

Looks like enough people had their fingers crossed that Dorian changed her mind and will head north.

We've had gusts of wind up to 36mph and a few rain bands come through. I grew up in a place with worse winds each spring so :p to Dorian.

We're lucky again!

Aaaaaand we're done!

Life was back to normal here and Mother Nature got a laugh out of making me clean up the backyard.

Carry on.
