someone or some group.

Do you agree with that statement? If not, throw out an example of humor and let me try to defend the statement.

Just don't confuse humor with irony or satire. Those are different things.

:p

i was about to agree with you but then i looked at your av...

i find that very humorous, yet don't see that it's making fun of anyone or any group...

(oh, and can you take a picture from the other side? you've got me rather curious)

I disagree... Humor *can* be and often is at the expence of some group or some person, but it isn't always. Donald Duck ass fucking Porky Pig. That's funny - and it doesn't hurt anyone. :)

:) hahahaaaa.... you see, at least your last line was humor that was at "my" expense.

And even my AV, to the extent you find it humorous, is at YOUR expense. Is the humor in your surprise at the image, or possibly the tiny bit of "offcolor" embarrassment found in your imagination of what must be holding up that bar?

Visual humor is almost always at the expense of the viewer.

BTW.... I think the bar is held up by a strap around his neck. If not, I am a very jealous man.....:p

It may not HURT anyone, but it's definitely at someone's expenses - specifically, Porky Pig. You're laughing at how ridiculous he'd look being bent over and done by a Duck.

Take this joke:

A doctor was having an affair with his nurse. Shortly afterward, she told him she was pregnant. Not wanting his wife to know, he gave the nurse a sum of money and asked her to go to Italy and have the baby there.
''But how will I let you know the baby is born?'' she asked. He replied, ''Just send me a postcard and write 'spaghetti' on the back. I'll take care of expenses.''

Not knowing what else to do, the nurse took the money and flew to Italy.

Six months went by and then one day the doctor's wife called him at the office and explained, ''Dear, you received a very strange postcard in the mail today from Europe, and I don't understand what it means.''

The doctor said, ''Just wait until I get home and I will explain it to you.'' Later that evening, the doctor came home, read the postcard, fell to the floor with a heart attack. Paramedics rushed him to the ER. The lead medic stayed back to comfort the wife. He asked what trauma had precipitated the cardiac arrest.

So the wife picked up the card and read, ''Spaghetti, Spaghetti, Spaghetti, Spaghetti - Two with sausage and meatballs, two without.'''

Who is being made fun of? The adulterous husband, of course. He's a fictional character, but he's still the butt of the joke.

BB.... I understand how you mean that, but like I just posted. Visual humor is almost always at the expense of the viewer. If the image isn't at least slightly rude or embarrassing or "off color" it isn't funny. And, if there is no surprise, there is no humor. Sometimes the surprise is in the "shocking" nature of the visual humor. If you had seen Donald Duck ass fucking Porky Pig many times before, it would cease to be funny.... Just like a joke isn't funny if you already know the punch line....

Laughter is a physiological response. When there are elevated levels of endorphins combined with a tiny shot of adrenaline, there is laughter. The tiny shot of adrenaline is provided by the surprise.... the surprise of the punchline, or the sudden unexpected action of the "comic".

In many cases, the humor is at the expense of the person who is listening. They are the brunt of the joke because they could not see what was coming...
