I've raised this in the Authors Hangout and, just for completeness, think it might be worth putting it up here.

I have a story plot more or less ready to go but, being the kind of writer I am, wish to base it in reality as far as possible.

I'm wondering whether anyone here has really looked into the idea of hucows and the practical considerations that might pertain. Over on AH, most people seem to think that it's the stuff of utter fantasy. I'm very far from being that sure.

If there's anyone here with thoughts on the matter, maybe they could PM me to discuss..?

Have you searched that term here on the boards? There are a number of threads about it.

I mean, in Reality, it’s just some fetish play. So you just do it for a session. Like the porn vids on it (where you have hucows kept in pens or outside 24/7 would likely result in their deaths due to exposure.

I’ve roleplayed it once or twice and even then it was either an act of sadism as a punishment or with more fantastical elements.

I mean, inducing lactation isn’t hard and can be done with real life drugs.

Don't you mean "udder" fantasy? Sorry, that was a really awful pun.

Please don't be so defensive. Some of us seemed to change our minds as we looked into it, and we found that it is an interest of some people. Now it may not be fair that there are entire forums devoted to GLBT and BDSM activities, but not other things. Maybe there is more on the Role Playing forum, or on other sites like the Hucow Store site.

There may be tens of thousands of Lit members, but maybe only a couple of hundred who regularly post or even look at the AH forum. If you merely want to talk about hucow, the odds are vanishingly small that anyone there (or here in Story Ideas) can offer you any practical knowledge of what is involved in it.

So either you will have to look elsewhere or just dive in and do it. By the way, Goodreads lists a whole bunch of hucow books to consider reading.

There's even more of them, including some by an author who calls herself Bessie Hucow. Get a few of those those and see what you can find out.

Yes, the gender flip thing is a theme I've already tackled.

My story does not relate to the hugely far-fetched, i.e. all the stuff concerning selective breeding and industrial-scale operation. It's based in the world we actually inhabit, using currently available stuff and is distinctly more individual...or... "bespoke"...

Thanks for the responses but I've now had a real deluge of PMs from my posting in the AH forum, some very helpful indeed, and I think I now have enough to go on.

An update on this post from a couple of months back.

I wrestled with my conscience on this one because, genuinely, I have a distaste for going beyond what is factually possible. I felt drawn to it however and a couple of other posters were kind enough to point me in the direction of various medical/scientific matters.

My "project", for want of a better word, is now over. I feel that "hucows" are not such an outlandish, stuff-of-fantasy proposition as some were saying and could form the basis for some erotic scenarios, if treated with caution.
