I normally don't do political threads but.......Wtf??? I don't want this ass running our country!!!

WASHINGTON (AFP) - Republican presidential hopeful and former Baptist pastor Mike Huckabee linked gay sex to bestiality and abortion to slavery in an interview Thursday, explaining why, if elected, he would try to amend the constitution.

"Marriage has ... as long as there's been human history, meant a man and a woman in a relationship for life. Once we change that definition, then where does it go from there?" he asked in an interview with online "Beliefnet" magazine.

"Well, I don't think that's a radical view, to say we're going to affirm marriage. I think the radical view is to say that we're going to change the definition of marriage so that it can mean two men, two women, a man and three women, a man and a child, a man and animal," he added.

"The Bible was not written to be amended. The Constitution was," he said, announcing his intention to amend the document if he were to be elected president in November to ban abortion and establish that life begins at the moment of conception.

Leaving it up to individual states to outlaw abortion within their own borders is not enough, he said.

"That's again the logic of the Civil War -- that slavery could be okay in Georgia but not okay in Massachusetts. Obviously we'd today say, 'Well, that's nonsense. Slavery is wrong, period. It can't be right somewhere and wrong somewhere else.' Same with abortion," Huckabee said.

Huckabee won the Iowa Republican caucuses earlier this month, the first contest in the race for each party's nomination to run for the White House. He is in second place behind Arizona Senator John McCain in opinion polls for Saturday's primaries in South Carolina.

I wouldn't loose too much sleep over it, I think this little flame will die out of it's own accord.

pretty sure huckabee would alienate to many non fundamentalist to have a chance.

the republicvan party doesn't want him to get the nomination.
I hope he does.
There's no way he'd win (which is why the RNC is terrified of him)

But I have to ask
why are you surprised by his statements?
Religious belief at this level of fanatacism is virtually indistinguishable from schitzophrenia/delusional behavior.
The only difference is that you remain mostly functional and we, for what ever reason, accept delusions when the word 'god' is used.
*shrug*
(yes, I know my atheism might make me unpopular...)

The only way I would hope he wins the nomination is if Hillary beats out Obama, then my hope would be that in a race between Hillary and Huckabee (daymun, that has a nice ring to it - Hillary & Huckabee Fine Irish Ale, or Hillary and Huckabee loonies for hire, or...) anyway, what was I saying? Oh yeah, perhaps if it were a Hillary & Huckabee race no one would vote at all and we would be safe for four more years. Now, to that other thing; How could you ever think that you might be unpopular? Banish the thought!

Besides the fact that technically, he's incorrect. Anthropologically speaking, there have been a number of societies that did not limit marriage to being between one man and one woman. Polygamy and polyandry are not unheard of and some societies had more than two genders (traditional Indian society and several Native American groups come to mind).

Safe ? I hope you are sarcastic. Since the only option I can see is, that you are getting Dickhead cheney to become president ,instead of Bushwacker. Which is insane already.

Yes, I'm being sarcastic. The "safety" I was referring to would be in the case that "no one would vote at all" if it were between Hillary & Hukabee (dayum! I do like the ring to that though). But this would never happen as someone would break down and vote and one of them would win. But, let me try to calm the fears of our good European friends - Cheney isn't in the running and unless there is a coup in America I think we have seen the last of him.

Huckabee is a freakin' Bible thumpin' nutcase. I think he went back into his delusional time machine and must think it's 1955. Hello, Huckabee, it's 2008!

!
The real problem with fundamentalists in positions of power is that they conveniently forget a large quantity of Christian teachings. Among these: humility, compassion, self-sacrifice, etc. Ooh, how about 'Let he who is without sin cast the first stone'?! How you like them apples?

I still love what stand-up comedian Katt Williams said about Huckabee. "How you gonna run for president when your name sounds like some bullshit weed?"

I think a worse problem is that someone who believes in the literal truth of the Genesis creation story will believe anything he or she wants to believe. I like for political leaders to be able to accept facts they wish were not true.
