html autoconversion and line breaks

Hey there.

I understand that if I have special formatting request that I should put them in indicated box when I submit my stories or whatever. However, in the interest of saving time for the hard-working people that convert my stories to html I am asking this question.

I've noticed that most automatic html conversions (At least in Microsoft Word and a few others) automatically convert all line breaks into new paragraphs. This becomes especially problematic when I have a group of single lines that I want to keep grouped together, as with a poem. To illustrate:

Line 1
Line 2
Line 3

Line 4
Line 5
Line 6

becomes:

Line 1

Line 2

Line 3

Line 4

Line 5

Line 6

I believe that this is what happened with my latest story submission to Literotica, for which I will probably have to send in a re-edit version in which I request this "special" formatting so as to preserve the original line grouping.

So, does anyone know a way to submit the plain text so that the html conversion programs preserve the original line breaks as line breaks only--rather than converting each line to a new paragraph? Or must I make a special format request for every time I have a group of single lines? What do you do for poetry?

I appreciate any help you might give. I couldn't find anything about this in the FAQ.

With poetry, I typically cut and paste. The line breaks have been maintained without any formatting request. Occasionally, I have had to delete spaces, but again, since I am submitting the text in the box, there have been no conversion issues.

I haven't uploaded any poetry so I don't know if I would then have to request formatting.

With the story I uploaded, the dialogue was maintained without any formatting request as well. I don't know if a request is necessary when you're trying to maintain groupings on a page.

Sorry, I couldn't offer more help.

Peace,

daughter

There are probably a whole variety of reasons why the format of my story might have got messed up. Heck, I may have messed it up somehow when I pasted it into the box.

Frankly, my latest story is only sort of mediocre, anyway. But, hey, may as well make the best of it, right?

Thanks for your input. Perhaps I'll try uploading the file directly next time.

Aren't we here to hone our skills? So the story is mediocre. Are you interested in polishing it? Post it to the discussion forum. Get some feedback and make it better.

Mickie gives balanced critiques and there are others who are equally good at it.

Don't ask me though. LOL I'm still licking my wounds. :)

Welcome to Lite.

Before you save the poem in text format, change the manual line breaks to "<BR>"

Your line1
and line 2

will look like

Your line1 <BR> and line 2

But should convert to HTML correctly.

Alternatively, cut and paste from Word into the submission box instead of browsing and sending a text file so you can preview the poem before you hit submit.
