HT Book Club, anyone?

I'm game, as long as it's the Kama Sutra, and it's going to take a bit longer than a month to get through it I'm afraid.;):D

I wonder if anyone here would be interested in a monthly book club?

For those of us who have kids it's difficult to keep erotic titles around, but I'd like to. May could be a problem for me due to end of school year obligations, but other than that you can count me in.

Oh, I wasn't even thinking about erotic titles, just intelligent conversation.

I'm out! :(;):D

I'd like to take a look at that one some time. I've never even glanced at a copy. :(

Ann Cooper did a really nice job updating the original, separating out fact from fiction from wank fodder. While I didn't read it in its entirety, I did go through it enough to know it was well done. There are other versions as well, YMMV.

On the friendzone thing, I was actually thinking about you today while I was jogging. You're now on the list of folks I would like to meet. :)

I must warn you, I'm a little older than my avatar would have you believe. ;)

I do not love bacon, though. I am, in fact, a vegetarian. (I tried the vegan bacon by Morninstar Farms recently....kinda looks like Beggin' Strips. Tasted worse.)

Blasphemy!!! How can you not love bacon? If God had meant man to be vegan he wouldn't have made animals so tasty! ;) Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Earlier today I had a friend seriously trying to convince me that being a vegetarian makes no sense. She went on and on and on while I stood there wondering if she really feels this judgmental about my diet.

The critters we most commonly eat are vegan, so technically, you're not breaking any rules by eating them. ;):D Don't you hate it when someone feels the need to lecture you on how you live your life? People in general need to worry more about how they are living their own lives and leave everyone else the hell alone!

Some of us (maybe eight or so? I'm trying to think of names) attempted to start a HT Book club in 2006 (??). We didn't advertise it on the boards, though, and we ran the discussions pretty much off-site. Our "meetings" were live chat sessions.

Unfortunately, people were super busy, and the group kind of fizzled out after a couple of months. Hell, I was so stressed that I completely forgot about one of the meetings, and I never forget stuff like that!

I like the idea of having a Book Club thread and selecting a book every month. That way, people can participate (or not) as they see fit. :)

I can't help with the book thing, but I can help with the degrees of separation.

Nipples <> Nipples. Done.

I remember that! That's when Scalywag was still around... <sigh>

I wonder if anyone here would be interested in a monthly book club? There is a thread in the BDSM forums (not sure if it's still active) in which they would choose a book to read, read it during that month and then at the end of the month post responses/discuss the book. Let me know if you're interested; if we have a few who'd like to do this, maybe we could pick a book for May.

(Also curious, any other HTers anxiously awaiting City of Lost Souls by Cassandra Clare?)

Would love this! I need a reason to read something for pleasure - of another kind!

I'd go for something like this. That way if a book doesn't catch my interest, I wouldn't feel so guilty about not reading it.

Cool! I like the YA category. My eldest just started the Hunger Games trilogy (well, he's onto the second one now) and it's generated some good conversations. Personally, I'd pick Divergent over XVI to start with, but that's just me. :D

Count me in - any introduction to a new book/author is good in my world. And I'm easy when it comes to books, so I'll go with the majority.

And nope, haven't read City of Lost Souls .

Given that my time is limited between now and June, I'll selfishly recommend a book / series that I have already read but will gladly read again. Jaqueline Carey's Kushiel's Dart (first in a series, but I'm not suggesting we read the entire series). The book is a nod to the spirit of Literotica. Kushiels Dart is a mystery of sorts with many facets. It has just enough erotic elements to keep it entertaining without being either pulp romance or purely erotic fiction.

There is a Wiki that does a much better job of explaining the book than I can, but I am not going to link to it because it contains major spoilers. Instead here's a quote :

Elua's motto was "Love as thou wilt." This results in the fact that love and physical pleasure is a central aspect of society in Terre d'Ange. Although marriage exists in Terre d'Ange, it is viewed equally with other forms of love, including dalliance, taking a lover or consort, etc. It likewise engendered an acceptance of any form of love, be it reverent or harsh, heterosexual, homosexual, or bisexual.

One of the central institutions of Terre d'Ange is service to the angel Naamah. As such, her adepts are courtesans (a word normally associated with prostitution, but which Carey gives a more positive connotation). Because of the above-mentioned precepts of Elua, Servants of Naamah are both men and women who engage in all manner of dalliances.

The Court of Night-Blooming Flowers, or the "Night Court," is in the City of Elua and comprises Thirteen Houses. Each house has a head, called the Dowayne. Each Servant of Naamah owes a debt to their House for the training they have received, and in many cases upbringing. Their debt is considered complete when their marque, a tattoo covering the entire back, is complete.

That said, I'm open to anything.
