How Unique Is A Kiss?

Of all things, this question is generated by Spider-Man. The kids have been watching #1 constantly as they await Gramps taking them to see the newly released #2.

In number 1, Spidey kisses MJ in an alley after a bodies flying drenched with rain tinged with fear and excitement mysterious moment. In the trailer for #2, much is made of preventing a kiss between Peter and MJ, for fear that she will figure out who he is.

Is a kiss really that unique of a signature? Despite the dramatic differences in surroundings and emotional setting, could MJ recognize that Peter and Spidey are the same person through a kiss. If you were blindfolded and kissed and then kissed again two weeks later by the same person, would you recognize them?

My wife thinks she probably could if the kisses were delivered with similar intensity. I don't believe I could in the kinds of situations in the movie. I think I could tell if an ex were to kiss me, someone whose kiss I had known intimately, or at least I would recognize something subconciously.

What are your opinions?

There are some kisses I would recognize instantly. Ahh, memories! I had a boyfriend who could almost kiss me unconcious - they were that damn good.

Other kisses, well - mediocre comes to mind. Those I might recognize, but I doubt it.

I would have to agree that kisses are signatures, each one unique in itself and the individual offering them.

Yep, I agree, too!

That's why some can become so addictive.

I remember the really great kissers and the really bad ones. I can still shudder when I think of my first french kiss: I had no idea what was going on and it was so awfully wet, ALL over my face. And I still swoon when thinking of a boy I kissed for hours and hours - yum.

I think it would be rather difficult to recognize somebody from just one kiss. (plus it was upside down). But if you are together with someoine for a longer period it should be possible. Still depends on the people involved though.

I want to use this to make two comments:
- There is a fine german film (so I've heard, haven't seen it yet) in which three couples meet for dinner and later one after a bit of alcohol they argue about the question whether one could identify their partner just by touching the naked body. So they all get undressed and touch each other in order to recognize their s/o. Of course this ends in disastrous arguments and problems.
P.S. It's NOT a porn flick but a serious comedy/drama.

- You just reminded me of the fine Spider-Man I spoof in Shrek 2. Hilarious. :)

I dunno about this. I'm pretty observant in general, and I don't think I could tell kisses apart. But then maybe I've just been too, um, distracted by the kisses themselves to pay proper attention...

oh yes.... a kiss is more than just a kiss...

I can think of one kissing partner who has brought me closer to orgasm with just kissing than other sex partners have with an assortment of other techniques. could i pick him out of a crowd? hell yes!

How unique is a kiss? It has to curl my toes. The passion given in a kiss reflects the individuals feelings to me. If it isn't passionate, well it tells me alot about the woman kissing me and her true emotions.

Mmm I'll make more than your toes curl ;-)

well, I certainly can remember kisses that curled my toes, some of them quite recent (Hi babe!) but it is a little off where I was going. It's more like is a kiss as unique as a voice or a face? Take the kiss and isolate it from the rest. Ever had someone you have not seen in a long time call and you don't recognize their voice for a second, even though they were an intimate part of your life? That is the kind of thing I mean.

I have some I think I would recognize and some I don't think I would.

If I was blindfolded and kissed all my ex lovers (there aren't many LOL), there's only one I'd recognise.

My ex husband's big, fat, wet, eewwwwwey tongue... still makes me nauseous thinking about it ;-)

I remember the first, and the latest. All in between is a bit vauge. Still, a repeat would certainly stir memories, and I think I could single out some of my ex-kissers in a blind test.

At this point, I would like to mention something I saw on America's Funniest Home Videos a couple weeks ago.

Somebody sent in a tape of the reception after a wedding, and the groom was blindfolded and you could hear someone on a microphone say to him that he had to pick which person kissed him was his wife. Well, he had 5 choices to choose from, and he got it wrong. He was quite astonished when he took the blindfold off and his choice came at him with puckered lips. It was a man.

All FIVE choices that had kissed him while he was blindfolded were men, one had even given him a great big french kiss that he obviously didn't enjoy (you could tell) But he said he was SURE that his choice was his wife. So, I'm guessing women are a lot better at this judging than men are.

But, I would have to say, that for all you women who said yes to this question, how many of you have done a blind-fold test to it and proved it? Take 5 men you know and name off each one as they kiss you. You won't get them all. (no hands in the hair, no touching at all, just lips, any kind of kiss)

Depends on the kiss - a peck you wouldnt recognise - but a full blown tonsil licking spit swapping one you would - ie a Snog- because its not just the way they use their lips and tongue to kiss you with its also their taste mingling in yours - when 2 ppl kiss they create a taste unique to them - so yes you would be able to identify a lover snogging you not on just technique but taste alone.

I was kissed once, there was no sex, not even an embrace, but a long slow kiss. It was the first woman who kissed me and it was THE most erotic and sensual thing I've ever experienced before or since.

I have to agree Lisa. The kiss without the sex, that is totally erotic and sensual would definitely stay lodged in my memory. I think kisses are not about sex, it's about the seduction and feelings of those giving the kiss. If they're after sex, we know. But the kiss expresses the emotions involved. The passion and possible future. As teenagers we kissed and called it making out. Now that we're older, we feel more in a kiss. Would I recognize my pass kisses? Nahhhhhhhhh, none were that great. Even my ex. But it's coming. Very soon. lol

I'm still waiting for my fiance to get here to the states. Then I'll tell you about a kiss!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wonder at a point Tolyk made about women being better at identifying than men.

No judgments just a wonder. I happen to memorize that person's mouth during the kiss. I can tell you which of the people I've ever kissed had pointy teeth and where, which ones had really full lips, ones who were over-salivized , those that kissed like a dead fish and those that tickled my tonsils. I think all of the kisses I've had contained some kind of trademark. A sweep of the tongue across your palate, a particular way their tongue slid in at first and lingered before attacking, a warm breath exhaled into my mouth...all were different and unique to that person.

Of all the people I've ever kissed (not that there have been oodles, but enough to choose from) I think I'd definitely be able to pick them out in a blind-folded test, unless they were deliberately trying to deceive...and even then, I'm fairly confident. At the very least, I'd know the awful ones at first touch.

Should probably add that I have a kissing fetish. ;)

I think we should explore this fetish lucky, or is it lucky fetish, oh hell, just kiss me.

I think Lisa and I should take turns kissing you and you can describe the differences...

serves two purposes, I get to kiss the luckster and may be as close as I get to kissing Lisa LOL

not every kiss is unique, but there are some folks in this world who are truly memorable kissers. i can think of at least three i'd know by taste, technique, and style. they have their own VERY unique signature....

for example, guys --- i bet there's at least one woman in your past whose bj you could pick out of a crowd blindfolded with your hands tied behind your back. she has a certain technique or style that makes her memorable, and even years later, you could tell it was her lips wrapped around you and not anyone else's. how do i know? i've been that girl for several guys. :D
