...can a story here on Lit be before people start reacting badly to it?

I have this thing I'm working on that is an erotic story. With all that means in form of graphic, explicit sex scenes, and a story evolving around people having a go at the horizontal boogie. But there are other elements there too, quite lengthy, quasi philosophical/psychological dark shit. Flashbacks, parallell plotlines that is trying to explain why the characters fuck like bunnies with no regard of the consequences. And there are consequences too. I haven't written them yet, but they are on the way.

Anyhoo...there are a lot of things here that might turn the reader off. Elelments of past traumas, child abuse (not sexual abuse, I don't think I could handle that subject in a plausible way, and I wouldn't get to post it here anyway), drugs, death, depression, std's. Stuff that happens in real life, the kind of things that I suspect the average reader come here to filter out.

I'm playing with the idea to downplay those elements of the story, so that the erotic tension doesn't get ruined.

Any words of wisdom from the crowd?

Write the story as feels right to you -if it is well written then it will be well recieved by those who can appreicite that. However if you're looking for mass appeal.....just describe the fucking ;)

But it sounds like a funky story idea to me. I'd like to read it sex and all :)

Liar, I say just go for it, and write it exactly as you think the story works for you. There might be a few who back-click, or even send you negative feedback, BUT, there will also be many who will appreciate a rich, deep story, which doesn't shy away from some of the "truths" of life.

Write it! It's your story!

Write it as you feel it should be written, Liar.

In my longer pieces at least, I try hard to build up the scenario. I even had a guy use a condom in my latest piece. Doesn't seemed to have effected the votes any.

So, go for it.

Similarly, in my very first story I posted to Lit, I had a guy use an anti-bac wipe on his cock, cos he'd just been up the woman's ass, and was about to fuck her in the pussy. I try to promote hygienic, if feethly, sex. ;)

I actually had a LOT of positive feedback about that one little incident, and not one piece of negative feedback. It seems a lot of people appreciate a little common sense and reality from time to time. :)

Gawd, I keep getting the 'don't use protection, get her pregnant' feedback!

Ah, well, here we have a tale of lack of common sense combined with reality. And the result of that combination is, as we all know, pretty damn fucked. And not in the regular erotica sense of the word.

Oh bugger, I'll just get it done and see what happens then shall I?

Yep! Sounds like a plan to me. :)

(We all have many moments when we lack common sense - or choose to ignore it - so it sounds very realistic and plausable to me!)

I think you had already answered your own question mate.

But as everyone else said, write it how YOU want to.

Maybe even, write the long version for yourself and privately others, and edit it for posting.

If you want to write that story then just do it.

In my experience the reality or otherwise of the content doesn't matter as long as the story is worth reading and is valid. You might get some bad feedback. That can happen to any story, even one in the mainstream genres, so avoiding it is not a consideration.

The rating might be low. You could turn voting and PCs off if you are worried about them. The rating only matters to you. If you really expect to be criticised then the only attitude is as quoted from you above.

It is worth trying something different just to see if you can do it. If that story is demanding that you write it then you should. Whether you should post it, or once posted, whether you should leave it or delete it, is a matter for your judgement.

What does it matter if you get a low rating? or abusive feedback? What you feel is valid is justification enough.
