To an extent yes... I always feel public venues are the best places to find good partners. As in bars, clubs, etc., geared towards a GLBT crowd. Online is fine, but the only way to be safe is to know who you're getting involved with. Even then, get to know someone in a public setting. If you're trying to be discreet, remember your straight friends probably won't be in a gay bar and if you're having coffee with someone you met online no one has to know why.
