Flirting usually carries an edge, in that there's a bit of ridiculousness to it, or a bit of an insult, but there's enough of the humor or joke to make you realize it was just fun/flirt.

Any one who initiate physical contact with you, even by accident is likely flirting esp. if they start do the "bump and flatter", i.e. they bump into you, then apologize by claiming "OMG, I'm such a klutz around cut/hot guys"

Any one who continues conversation beyonds the "hi (insert name)" is likely flirting with you.

Any one who laughs at your joke, even when it's not that funny, is likely flirting with you

Any one who checks you out, you caught them, then still continues to check you out, is definitely flirting with you.

I have been told many times that i am totally oblivious to any kind of flirtation i have received. Can anyone explain how to tell the difference between a girl being nice to me and her trying to flirt with me?

All women are different, of course, and there are always a handful that don't follow the crowd, but this is my take on your question:

There is social flirting, the stuff out on the street - she is usually doing it just to be nice or to keep a situation light/safe. Then there’s real flirting. Most heterosexual women have a habit of becoming submissive. She’ll listen to you intently, maybe act a little coy, and joke around with playful banter––mature women like the battle of wits. She’ll be patient, more accepting and accommodating. She'll tell you what she likes about you but in a passive way: "Wow, you must be fit doing training for cross country." Physically, she might not look directly at you, or face you front on, and she’ll likely use her shoulders a great deal for expression. Her eyes will seem bigger, her smile too. She’ll stay near you but likely won’t touch you––unless she’s young and inexperienced (or horny)––and will usually wait for you to show interested first.
