Hi! This may be a newbie question, but how do you exactly search for stories by their rating? Note: I am not talking about the Hall of Fame. I am saying, if I went to the "Browse All" for a certain Genre, is there a way to organize the list by rating? (looking through it alphabetically and recording down each one with a high ranking seems like to much work)

It would save me a lot of time if there was a function like this. Thanks for reading!

What the heck? Why was this transferred to the BDSM thread?...

Probably meant to be sent to How To, sometimes mods mis-click. I'll pass it on. :)

So far as I'm aware, you can't, unfortunately. Is anyone else aware of how to do so?

there is a 'hall of fame' section in all the categories if you want the top rated selections. just click on a story group and scroll down a bit.

As much as I love the site, it leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to organization and functionality. I'm a big fan of simplicity but with the sheer amount of content here I think the whole 'keep it simple' philosophy is perhaps being relied upon to a fault.

I still read the stories and I still post on the forums but I have to admit that there have been times that I've gotten so frustrated looking for things that I just give up and close my browser. I know there is an advanced search function and that google has functionality to search specific websites but that's kind of my point - if I have to read a faq or a how-to in order to learn how to find what i'm looking for, then there's a problem with the code behind the page.

Search routines aren't easy to (properly) write - I've coded my share of them. But simple sorting options would seem to be a foregone conclusion for a site that hosts so very much content.

The Hall of Fame is a neat feature, but the problem with it is that the stories that are there are unlikely to change rank very often. Newer stories that might one day deserve a spot in the hall of fame don't really have a chance to break in as they are forgotten almost as soon as they drop off the 'new stories' page, where as Hall of Fame stories get continued face time which means more views and more ratings - further solidifying their place on that page.

Edit: I'm sorry - one more point here. The fact that individual chapters of the same story end up on the Hall of Fame page kind of jacks up the works I think. I get it - it's a good story - I don't need to see fifteen chapters of the same story taking up fifteen positions in the hall of fame. It's a waste of space that other authors deserve a shot at. I say this without any expectation that any of my storie(s) might be there - I say it because I'd like to see what other authors I might run across that I enjoy equally.

I don't mean to be overly critical. I still love Lit and will stay and read and enjoy the efforts of the folks that run it, but these are things that have bothered me since I found this site so many years ago.

It's quite simple.

1) From the frontpage, go to "Stories and Pics", and then to "Search Stories".
2) To the right of the magnifying-glass button there is an "Advanced Search" link. Click that.
3) Sort Results By: Vote Score. Then decide whether you want Descending or Ascending order (IE whether the top scores come first or last).
4) Hit the magnifying-glass button.
5) Enjoy.

Note that the search engine WILL NOT display what any given story's actual score is; you have to click on the story, and then on the author's profile, to see the numerical value. Note also that authors can earmark their story to keep scores invisible, at which point they will be listed in the profile as "x.xx". Having said that, this does not mean that voting is disallowed; the site keeps track of the story's score, it just doesn't display it. Unfortunately, this comes into play when you sort in Ascending Order: "x.xx" counts as "0.00" and those stories are listed first. Even when they have the Coveted Red H that means "4.5+ average vote" next to them. (Note that the larger majority of stories on this site have that Red H, so it really doesn't mean much anymore.)

Hope this helps.

You still need a search term. There is no way to just get a list of everything in a category listed by rating. If the hall of fame ends at say 4.8, there seems to be no way to get a complete list from 0.0 on up.
