A-men! It's hard to ignore telling people like him to just plain fuck off, but at the same time, it's SO sweet knowing that I am one less person feeding his egocentricicicism. DCL, way to go, man -- people may know how to get started in a "bad habit" (e.g., responding to anything dateRape has to say -- his name alone makes most of us want to wring his gangly little neck) but may not always know how to stop. Any, or none. The basic idea is this: if there's someone posting wild & crazy things to get attention, and these posts annoy you, then posting your annoyance will only encourage the annoying postee and thus cause you further annoyance. I'm all for telling someone they're wrong or otherwise expressing opinions. I also think unregistered posters can sometimes be funny. Dumb trolls don't bother me because they're have no culpable identity - thus they have no credibility. However, there are some people who get very upset at trolls who make racist/sexist/etc. remarks. If you're the type who is upset or dislikes these type of posts, the best way to discourage it is to ignore it. By arguing with the shit-stirrers, you're only keeping said threads on the front page...which is fine, if you find them entertaining. But if you don't then you're only causing yourself unnecessary grief. That's the gist, anyhow. Every individual here has a lot of power over the bulletin board. By choosing what threads we start and what we choose (and don't choose) to respond to, each one of us decides the direction of the board. It's like a ship with hundreds of little captains.
