how to resize pics

How do you resize a pic that is to big to post???
As eilan just said and I said back in 2005: "Irfanview is the answer" but many people disagreed with me and suggested other alternatives in that thread.

a common problem when people ask your question is that hey're trying to upload bitmap images (.BMP files) or some other uncompressed format which have to be cropped/shrunk well below the allowable dimension limits to meet the file size restrictions.

The first step in makin ag a picture uploadable is to convert it to JPeG (.JPG) format or another format that allows you to control the compression factor.

I use Photoshop CS3 but that suite of software. AT the time it cost me $999 but it has everything. That is really too much for the novice.

if you have MS word, there is a picture software, Microsoft Photo Editor that is great for resizing. I used to use it all the time.

Good luck,

MSPE is not bad. It is a very basic resize function that doesn't distort most images and is something that most people have on thier Windows system even if they don't know about it.

The problem with MSPE (through version 3.0) is that it only recognises eight image formats -- the only common image editor that recognises fewer is MSPaint (3.)

Programs like Photoshop, Paintshop Pro, Gimp, and Irfanview can open as many as a hundred different image formats which for the purposes of finding an avatar or profile picture extends the range of images to choose from tremendously.
