How to remove WinAntiSpyWare 2006?

Damn it.

No, it isn't on MY computer - I use Firefox and have avoided most nasties.

No, my dopey son was using explorer for some odd reason (I need to hide the shortcut for it). He just informed me that his computer was running very slowly all of a sudden.

No doubt. THIS stupid thing has glommed onto his system.

Damn it, damn it, damn it.

I'm off to run a few more adware and spyware programs. If anyone has one which works beautifully for them I'd love to hear about it?

Thanks.

(So - here goes my relaxing evening of wine, hubby and song. I'll be spending the next couple of hours messing with a damn PC. *pout*)

I use Ad Aware SE from Lavasoft. It's free and works pretty well.

There are a few others I have used before. I'll have to look them up.

Just make sure to reboot and run it again. Sometimes a nasty will attach itself to another program like Media Player or something and you think you got it but as soon as you restart it's back. If you pick up more hits after a reboot clean, rince repeat. If they keep comming back you have a problem. Maybe run another program or you may need real help. Running more than one sweeper is usually a good idea, one may pick up on something that another missed.

Spybot Search & Destroy and Bazooka are good too.

Excellent suggestions, both of you. Thank you!

I have Search & Destroy - I need to recheck his system with both Adaware and S&D - just to be sure.

Unless I'm remembering wrong, this is one of those that simply using spyware killer apps is not going to get rid of.

If all else fails....

Some of these malware programs lock in to so many places, and have to be removed in such specific ways that you may not be able to do it alone.

The guys in this forum can tell you how to get rid of anything with a little time, and point you in the right direction of ways to prevent it from happening again. Just be prepared to wait a couple of day for one of them to get through the backlog to your post, as the forum is *very* busy and some problems can take a couple days of posting back and forth to completely eradicate.

I wouldn't become too complacent with Firefox defending you against all the bad things on the internet, or Mac OS for that matter. As the number of people using them increases due to the buzz, the more attractive it becomes for hackers and malware developers to target it. The day will come when it won't be one lick safer than IE.

Yes, I saw a few of those forums when I first started to google for answers. We'll see what happens - I'm hopeful.

And you're right about Firefox, of course. When the newness wears off, it'll be time to move on.
