How to prune pages on a thread

How are empty pages in a thread removed when pictures are deleted. Editing only goes so far, down to 5 characters. What I need is a good pruning to reduce the number of pages that have bugger all on

Moderators can -- if you can convince them it's necessary.

Instead of posting new posts in a thread, just edit the empty posts with a new picture/

Just start a new thread - leave a link to it as a last post on the old one and edit the first of the old one to include the link as well
