Here is what I am doing differently this year. Would love to hear what you do or are planning to do differently to make it a great year.

- setting fewer goals - for more focus - with balance and anyplans for them chopped into small steps I can do every day
- picking a few things to stop doing or doing much less of
- kicking myself out of my comfort zone; plan to read books outside of my usual, becoming fluent with a new technology

The one thing I've noticed whenever I set goals for myself is that I have to be as precise as possible. It's not enough to say that I will not procrastinate, or that I will write two articles, but rather, I have to say I will write the first article on topic X by this date and the second by that date.

Then I break it down to manageable bite size goals.

This trick is something I've learnt from a family friend who owns three companies and is wildly successful. When I asked him what his secret was, he told me, quite frankly, that it's hard work, not putting it off, having a vision and then putting down on paper how to achieve that vision and believing it that one can have it all. It may not be the all one dreams of, but he takes every opportunity as it comes and goes with it. In other words, he was open to change.

He didn't have his 5 company conglomerate that he dreamt of - he has three. He also has a loving family that he goes home to every night, refuses to take home work, his wife helps him in the companies, and they live the life they want.

Ever since I took his advice, things like finishing up my Masters, starting my doctorate has been a breeze. When I didn't do it, like recently, oh boy oh boy was it tough.

So I made my resolutions a few weeks back, because the time was then to change, not now. :)

Resolutions for 2014:

720 x 480
960 x 640
1024 x 640
1280 x 720
1920 x 1080

How to have a better year:

* Don't get sick or injured
* Don't go broke or into debt
* Don't discuss politics/religion with morons
* Care more

I make the only New Years Resolution that I know I can keep, and that is to not make resolutions.

Wait a minute . . . DAMN IT!!!
