How to get on a Top List

Some categories have so few submissions that every story on it is on that category's Top List.

My story "Donna" is next to last in the Erotic Horror Top List scoring a massive 2.11. just above the lowest Top List item rated at 1.78.

There is hope for unpopular stories.

Any submission for those categories will be on the "Top List" as soon as it has 10 votes.

How to be "Top" without trying too hard.

Problem is that trying to get 10 votes in one of those categories is difficult. My chapter of our chain story is still sitting with just 3 votes.

I drive a Volvo, or ride a motorcycle, or borrow my wife's Ford.

Was the person you saw larger than life? Was his beard white like Father Christmas? (the one in my AV has stage make up on).

Never been to Sweden. My brother has. Perhaps it was yet another of my nephews.

Um, I'm holding the #3 spot on Reviews and Essays with a 4.75 and 81 votes. I also have the #5 spot in the same category with a 4.73 and 56 votes. You have to go down to #53 before you even get out of the 4's.

Kind of a big difference between that and a 2.11.

My How-To story (link below) has a score of 4.71 with 445 votes which is #11 on the Top List in that category. (And even though it won for February last year it may not make it to the final group to be voted on for 2003).

Granted, it is easier to win contests in categories that have fewer submissions, but I don't believe I belong on your list of "How to be Top without trying too hard"!

Come on, guys. He didn't say it was easy to score towards the top of those top lists. He only said it was easy to get on the list at all because there aren't many stories in those categories. Ogg's story is second from last out of a list of 110 stories. There are only 172 stories in the Erotic Horror category so that is why such a low scoring story made the top list.

I could be wrong, but I didn't read Ogg's post as insulting the high scoring stories in the aforementioned categories. It seemed to me to be more amusement that such a low score could make the top list at all. Please forgive my assumption and correct me if I'm wrong, Ogg.

Spanking would be preferred. I'll take the tights off for anyone. They keep falling down. Besides - how high can you kick? If you can't kick above your head you won't reach.

2.11 is my worst rated story but it is on a 'Top List'. I consider that peculiar. Some of my stories are on 4.70 and are not on the 'Top List' for their category.

For some of us, yes.

The "H" means a story with 10 or more votes is averaging 4.50 or better. I've got no idea what precentage of Lit stories have an "H". My guess would be less than 10% but that's strictly a WAG (wild ass guess).

Somewhat of a sidebar, but what do you think is the cause of erotic horror's status as a bit of a bastard step-child? It's my favorite category.

I'll take a guess, even though I've never posted a story to Erotic Horror. However, a lot of folks say my writing is horrible. Of course, even more claim I've never written anything erotic. Be that as it may and for what it's worth, I don't remember anyone at Author's Hangout bad-mouthing the category. If EH has an image problem, it may be due to it being one of the newer categories.
