How to find a suitable editor...?

I've had a poke around the FAQs and the editor search but I'm frankly a tad confused about how to go about finding the right editor. Seeing as how I'm trying t find an editor, I'll use my current story as my example.

It's the second part of an existing story that's currently sat in the NonConsent/Reluctance category, although it could probably equally sit in BDSM or Voyeur. (Its about a lass experiencing forced stimulation in public at her partner's whim.)

Doing a search for editors in NC/R brings back 1000 editors (presumably the search limit) with no sign I can see of when they last logged in, what stories they edited, or what the authors thought of them.

I'm assuming there's no way to see if editors have voted on your previous stories, so how do people find the right editor for their work?

I had the same problem. I searched around and couldn't find one that seemed to fit. Then some of the profiles had things spelled wrong or bad grammar. Figured that isn't going to work. Finally I just took a chance with two from the list of available this month and it worked.

Sadly the official VE program does not work, mostly because there is no check on the continued availability of people on the list. An example is my old ID "Snooper" which is still on there, but the email address is not valid, and I couldn't persuade them to change it (hence the new ID).

... so how do people find the right editor for their work?
Use the available list above, or request on here including the genre of your story (eg romance, non-consent, incest, gay male, lesbian, etc), the help you feel you need (e.g. grammar only, grammar and continuity, etc.), and its length (in words) as these factors play a large part in a volunteer editor's decision whether to offer help.

You also need to switch on your Private Messages. Go to User CP (top left of this page) then click on Edit Options (in the left hand column) and then tick Enable Private Messaging in the second box down. Make sure that the next box down (Receive Private Messages only from Buddies and Moderators) is NOT ticked. Finally click Save Changes at the bottom of that page.

Ah, thank you Snooper - I hadn't realised PMs were off. I'd been looking around to see where the counter was. (doh!).

I'll take a read through the thread and then consider a post here. I assumed that if posting requests here was acceptable the forum would be flooded with them.

It's not flooded, but we do get quite a few requests popping up in the Editor's Forum.

I am a newbie who was able to find some one to edit my stuff by posting in the editors thread. From the post I have received two offers in the first day. I took the first person's offer and was pleased with the result. They had two short stories (1500 words) edited the same day. Thank you to sun_sea_sky. This was my first attempt with an editor don't know if they were the perfect editor but I was happy with the result.
