How to ... decide where to post?

Hi all,

I have a question for long-term members of the forum.

How to you decide where to post?!

I asked about Waterports, here on HT, and was lightly admonished for posting and not just checking out the Blank Manual Thread. The reason I didn't just read the Blank Manual was that I'd wanted to be able to ask questions if anyone were to reply, and the threads on the BMT can be very old.

Another day, I'd wanted to contribute about frenum piercings from a woman's point of view, (after a Yahoo chat on the subject), so I did a search, found an old thread on the Blank Manual, added my tuppence worth, and was admonished for resurrecting an old thread!

Now, I'm rather dubious about posting, as I clearly don't 'get' the Lit netiquette, yet I'd still like to contribute some of my own experiences to the forum. I've tried lots of things with my husband for the first time recently, and I'd quite like to share my feelings on the things we've tried.

Help!

I'd say just go ahead and post wherever and whatever you want. Don't worry if someone gets their panties slightly bunched up about it.

The only bit of advice I'd give you is if you want to talk about something seriously or get a serious answer to your questions avoid the General Board. Apart from that have at it.

Hey, D-Mama...don't get discouraged! The good news is that the Sticky's on the How To forum are kept well up-to-date by an amazing mama named SweetErika...she is a fount of valuable information! The bad news is that (and I'm speaking from experience, here) sometimes on these boards, you try to be careful about what you're saying and where you're saying it, and you still get a smack on the hand. After you lurk around the boards for awhile and get to know some folks, you'll find that you start to grow a thicker skin and let the "scolding" remarks roll right off!

Welcome to the wonderful (and sometimes ridiculous!) world of Lit!

I think it's wise to check out the stickies and previous threads THEN post your own if you still have questions or a new spin on a topic.

And I'll just add that when I tell people to check The Blank Manual, FAQ sticky, or search, it's because I'm trying to give them additional info/resources that I think they might find useful, not trying to admonish them. There's already a wealth of information here, but a lot of people don't know how or where to find it, so I typically try to point them in the right direction. :)

How To 'nettiquette:

Where to Post

Basic rules of engagement

Resurrecting old threads If you do it, basically say why you're reviving it. Otherwise, people will think, "Huh? Why's this coming up again? This is old history."

Hope this helps. And welcome to Lit. :)

Reviving old threads is fine if you state why you're doing it, such as, "I still have a question, ..." But responding to long since dead threads is frowned upon. Basically, have a good reason and nobody cares.

You can also start your own new thread on any subject and preface that you've looked in the blank manual and didn't find what you were looking for.

Welcome to Lit, enjoy posting.

Oh my goodness! I'm so sorry! I genuinely thought I'd replied to this thread on my mobile, thanking you all for your replies. However, my post obviously didn't submit properly, so I offer my thanks along with my apologies.

You are reasonably new, and some tolorences are given to newbies. But -- for the most acceptances and responses, the two threads you mentioned would do best under fetish. Reviving old threads for any reason is not usually liked by older members.

No matter what, you will always get critazied on this post. You will learn over time. Don't be discouraged early on -- all of us have made mistakes in postings in the past.
