I posted a story once, a long time ago, and have forgotten the protocol for continuation of chapter 1, 2, 3, etc.. What is the process used to having more than one chapter to a story? Do I just keep on writing, or divide it into chapters or what? I recently started with another story, posted it, but needed to continue with the rest of the story which entails at least six parts. Since I posted it, now it will not let me continue because I have a story with the same title.

Is this something that is done automatically by the system, or do I just keep on writing and hope for the best.

All answers will be appreciated. Thanks.

Probably the easiest way to solve the problem is to amend the original title to "MyStory Ch.01" and follow it by Ch.02, 03, etc.

You have to include the Ch.02 etc as part of the title.

If you are writing a chaptered story, it is a good idea to make each chapter complete with a beginning, development and an ending which leads to the next chapter's beginning (sometimes as a cliffhanger).

From what I understand, you can't post again using "exactly" the same title. So, taking a page from many authors who have posted series of stories, simply slightly alter the titles.

Fun with Dick and Jane
Fun with Dick and Jane, part two
Fun with Dick and Jane, part three
More Fun with Dick and Jane
Dick and Jane At It Again
Dick and Jane Won't Give it a Rest

...ans so on...

You can post a second chapter for 'Title', if you use 'Title Chapter 2.' If you want to post the story as a single item, you can post 'Title (Remove) and request that the story be removed, so that you can resubmit 'Title' as an expanded story, after the original 'Title' has been removed (usual wait is a few days.)

And, based on my very recent experience, also be aware that there may be unforseen delays in submitting and posting that could cause your readers dismay. I structured a story with chapters, which wouldn't have been a problem in a book or once all parts were posted, so that readers could continue reading if they so chose, but which obviously left too much stuff hanging for 2 - 3 day intervals. Doesn't mean chapters don't work, just that you also need to consider the time dimension when you decide how to set up an ongoing story.

One great thing about this site is that the administrators set up your stories page so that the chapter titles will appear together under a heading titled "Story Title 5 part series" and that will keep adjusting as you submit more chapters. It's like magic! :)

How To Continue a Story.

My thanks to all who responded, I will try your advice as soon as I find out if my story was accepted or rejected. Hopefully it will be rejected, that will give me a chance to just continue on to the end instead of risking another bump on the road.
Thanks again, and God Bless.
