So I have a housecat.. Well it is actually the kids' cat, but I'm in charge of most of it. The cat has dwelled in my house for a year now...a year of cleaning the litter box once a week, feeding, yadda yadda yadda.

The last three weeks the cat has decided that my bed is an awsome place to take a shit. Not all the time, but usually once or twice a week.

Any suggestions on how to correct this behavior?

I am close to letting kitty live outside from now on, or maybe in a gunny sack thrown into the river...
Thanks

Is there anything else going on that might have upset kitty? My first thoughts are that either he may be sick in some way, or that something has happened to upset him.

Cats can do freaky stuff if they think they've been slighted by a person close to them. I used to live with a cat who started to have poo issues when another pet was brought into the house, or if she even thought that another pet was going to be brought in - if anybody came in smelling like another animal, she would get upset and it would take a few weeks for her to settle down and believe that we werent' going to replace her.

You said you've had the cat for a year? Is it an older cat? Seriously, a cat can develop Alzheimer-like dementia as they age. My cat is 10 years old and I've noticed things like not cleaning herself as well as she once did, and pooping in inappropriate places every now and then. Her favorite spot is right in front of the front door. Not often, just every now and then. I tried cleaning the litter box a little more often, like twice a week. That seems to help.

I love cats, but Cakegirl is right--they can get pissy over dumb things. I guess the hard part is figuring out what's going on in their little kitty heads.

Give the bed a good shot of Febreze, or other odor neutralizer. I'm sure the vet can give you some recommendations.

Good luck, FF!

yeah. your cat is being spiteful because of something going on.

have you changed the food? not playing with it as much, kids lost interest, not cleaning the littler box - change the type of liter?

my pup does the same thing, except she finds a pair of shoes ... eats one of them and hides the other.

Oh yeah, those cats. They are evil. Believe me. Hideous creatures of the night, very selfish. They only use you and laugh about you behind your back. Damn em all.
Get a cute lil puppy instead :)

(No, just kidding, some kittens are alright :) )

I go with one of these options. A cat crappin in the bed can't be good for your sex life.

Is there alot of sweat on the bed ? like body oder the reason i say this is because my grandma cat will piss on my hockey jerzey or in my hockey bag any time she could. And my mom found out it was because of sweat the cat would do that and my they will shit too i dont know for sure.

This is a no-brainer but I thought I'd mention the obvious...just in case. The older a cat gets the fussier it gets in regards to the cleanliness of it's cat litter box. Just a thought.

Also, and this is a real dumb thought but I thought I'd throw it out there....just in case.......are you sure they aren't "fur balls"? I realize that the smell would tell you the difference but if you've never experienced a "fur ball"....they do look alike.

But like most people mentioned......your cat is probably pissed about something new.

The cat is not that old..she was a kitten when we picked her out at the pound. And nope..Ill guarantee not a fir ball.. It's either cat shit, or the boy is getting adventurous with his potty training..Ill gaurantee.

I am having somewhat the same problem with my 11 year old cat. Today i came home and caught him peeing on the carpet on hte sun porch. Oddly enough i was on my way to clean his box. I scolded him and have had nothing to do with him at all tonight.
I hope it was because of him being picky about his box else i will have one dead cat on my hands.

I had to clean the carpet instead of cut grass. I don't think it is an even trade off.

got shit?

ok... i have no real clue about cats or the veterinary arts for that matter. frankly, i'm a dog guy but several friends have cats and one had this particular problem... so all i can do is tell you what they did...

putting aluminum foil on the area the cat is shitting on is usually a good fix. first of all, it stops the offending emission from penetrating the fabric (the shit don't soak in to the sheets). secondly, the cat will likely not tread on the foil because of the sound and feel.

in my friend's particular circumstance, they found out that the cat was depressed and now the little punk is on anti-depressants. i don't know if you wanna go that far, but it could be a real possibility for the cause of the problem.

good luck. nothin' worse than a shitty pussy.

the only thing that i can say is that your problem started when you got the cat........

is it obvious I'm not a cat person?

Kinda off the point of the thread...but since I don't know what the hell to tell firefighter about his cat problem, at least I can answer this one in a roundabout sorta way.

I had a cat that did the same thing...after taking him to the vet I learned he had a urinary infection. The vet told me that cats will tend to go away from the litter box when they have an infection, simply because they associate the pain of it with the litter box, and they think that getting away from it will make it better. Makes sense to me.

If he keeps doing it, you might want to get him checked for that.

How old is kitty? Animals can become senile, and that's when they start doing stuff like that.

If age is not the issue, then chances are, kitty is pissed off at you. My suggestion, until kitty begins to use the litter box, is to keep the bedroom door closed. Also, if kitty is pissed, try and figure out why this is. A lot of times, you can build a system of rewards to reinforce proper behavior.

Cats are strange animals, and they are not as domesticated as we like to imagine.

This is true. If you suspect a urinary tract infection, watch kitty when she/he pees. Is it strained? Is it painful? If you can tell, cause many times it's microscopic, are there crystals in the urine, or is it funny colored?

Good ideas...Hmmm..Maybe I can make a game out of it with the kids...Watch Kitty pee and win a prize...LOL

I hate cats, but it was easier than listening to the kid whine and whine about needing one. ;)

I belive the outside farm cats are putting her up to this.

I'm not a big fan of the feline myself, though my reasons stem from working with them. I would rather face a rabid Pit Bull than a cat that doesn't want to be messed with for the simplest of procedures. Beautiful animals, sure, and in my own way, I'm a sucker for them too, but yeah, I am a die hard dog person, and feel strongly about cats in my house because they are more infectuous than dogs.

Put it this way. I got my hand mauled by a dog and I stitched it up myself at work. I got bit by a cat and was sent directly to the hospital due to the fact that the inside of a cat's mouth is a bacteria factory.

However, I am rambling, and I know it. Make a game of it. Or, save yourself the time as well as potentially excruciating pain for the kitty, and take kitty in for an exam. Once you rule out medical issues, you can work on the behavioral issues.

If it is a UTI, it hurts like hell. Kitty will likely be put on Clavamox drops for it, and it will clear up within 14 or so days.
